We had the good fortune of connecting with Denver musician Thomas Harpole!   He has just released his new funk and latin single HEADLIGHTS (The 1916 Funk), and is set to release a full length album this fall.

Hi Thomas, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose it because I love the feeling of being valuable to other people in what I make, whether in music or in my real estate business. I enjoy letting my thoughts run and putting projects into action that I believe in. I also have the feeling that I can’t breathe if I’m not running my own business, building my own products, providing a service, buying and selling my own assets, and having fun. It’s in my blood and I don’t have fun working for other people. Doing this also allows me to spend time making art and control my schedule. You have to know what makes you tick and where you find creative energy and flow.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m proud of being a full-time entrepreneur and working artist/musician! It’s not easy to balance the two, but both real estate and musicianship take creativity, passion, and grit to see results over the long term. I’ve spent the last five years meeting musicians around Denver and surrounding myself with people who were profoundly better at their craft than I was at mine. I think that’s one of the secret keys to growth: always be in a room where everybody is way above your level. You will stay humbled, inspired, and be open to the osmosis that happens when you’re around people who take you to the next level.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot to sit and think is still the Bluffs Regional Park (south metro in Lone Tree) at sunset. There’s a magic that comes from viewing the sunset and the entire city at the same time, and I don’t think there’s a better view of Denver. A perfect 3 mile loop for a walk and talk, or some quiet reflection. I would go see some live music at Red Rocks or the Bluebird for a fun evening.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to the people out there that are simply making art and building the businesses they love. These are the people grinding it out in late hours and holding nothing back, unafraid of what other might say or think about them. I love these people. These are the people that persist, year after year, and build freedom for themselves through whatever it is their passionate about. They live and strive for creative flow and understand the end-consumer. They understand being valuable and being humble. Whether in Denver or beyond, my hats off to you! You waste no time and live the way a human being should.
