We had the good fortune of connecting with Thomas Keller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thomas, what are you inspired by?
So many different things can inspire me as an individual. So many different life experiences; good ones, bad ones. So many different thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Life is constantly inspiring me in one way or another.

Personally, nature is one of my absolute favorite inspirations though. To sit, stand, walk, and just exist in the middle of this glorious creation is one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever experienced. This past month my family and I have been exploring more and more of the great outdoors. We went and spent a day walking through Garden of the Gods and several other trails; adventuring to Seven Falls and drinking from a mountain stream. There’s a subtle beauty in seeing God’s creation up close, and I for one, get caught up in the beauty of it all.

That being said however, inspiration doesn’t always come from happy experiences. Honestly some of the best songs that I’ve ever written have often come from places of longing and hurt. My song “Anymore” is focused around heartbreak and the realization that some things in life just aren’t meant to be, no matter how long we hope/wait/pray.

With that ALSO being said… it’s hard not to look past bad experiences, and look toward the future. No matter where you are right now, no matter how bad things may seem, the future is not written in stone… You write your own story and it’s not over yet. So… what will you do?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a musician and worship artist from Kansas City area. I’ve had some of the most amazing opportunities to meet and play with some of the biggest names in worship including; David Crowder, Lauren Daigle, Mathew West, I Am They, Jordan Feliz, Casting Crowns, and so many others. I have been truly blessed in my short time touring and leading worship. Honestly most of my journey was just sheer dumb luck; being at the right place at the right time.

I remember going around and starting out in a bunch of different small town country churches. I would often go and “guest lead” for these churches, playing a few songs just one time and then would head out and do somewhere else. It wasn’t something that I was heavily pursuing, but enough that I would do a couple different churches within the span of a month. But then, one random day, I was working in my local music store, and a gentleman came in and asked us if we knew of any “worship artists or musicians” that might be interested in playing at a local festival. Little did I know, that one simple “yes” would open up doors all over the midwest.

Fast forward a few years into the future… I’m not as active as I once was (COVID played a big part in that), but I’m happy to announce that I have been playing TONS of shows this past year, and fully intend to tour and hit the festival circuit in 2023! If you don’t follow me yet, let’s be friends! I’d love to catch up and meet you!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely LOVE getting coffee and hanging out in local shops. If you’re in the Fairplay area, I strongly recommend The Burro Cafe. Some of the best coffee and grub you can find in the area! There’s also lot to do in the town as well! The Old “South Park” Town gives a great history, and blast into the past. Fun Fact: It’s the inspiration for the TV Show South Park. The residents are super fun and welcoming.

If you’re in the Denver are, and are wanting to get a little weird… go hit up the Meow Wolf Convergence Station! It’s a blast and totally takes you into a different dimension. It’s a great place to solves mysteries, explore, and even just take some cool photos/selfies!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To Aaron, my Mother, Grandmother, and beautiful wife Jennifer,

Thank you all for putting up with me, regularly. I know it’s with your love, support, encouragement, and mentorship that I am the person I am today. You have all helped me in more ways than I can even dare to recount. You are all beautiful inside and out, and I hope that we can spend many more years together making memories.

To the ones that have already gone home (my Dad, and Grandfather),

I wish you could have met your grandchildren/great-grandchildren. They are spitting images of their Dad. I hope and pray that I’m teaching them to be the young men and women that I know you would want them to be. With every adventure and milestone, I look to the sky and think of you. I love you and miss you.
