Meet Tiera Newhouse | Book Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiera Newhouse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiera, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Before the text message, I had thoughts during the pandemic on what I’d like to do for the rest of my life. I tried selling T-Shirts, watches, printing services… but it was nothing I could do forever. I realized I did not know anything about what I was really doing. That’s when I opened a Gym with Ahmad Alaajiy! We made it pretty far until I needed $250,000 to actually open a charity to help communities get healthy. We wanted to end gun violence, so I took advantage of the text I received. One morning, I received a text message! It told me I can become a best-selling author during the Pandemic! Then, I thought to myself, what stories would I write? Can this fund my gym? Can I do this for the rest of my life AND like it? The answer was yes and i took the call. As soon as I spoke with the company, I fell in love. I literally cried writing Trieshay’s Silver Spoon and loved writing so much I didn’t realize I had written 20 pages in just a few hours! My writing became my obsession. It became a passion so fast, that I went to The Blackford Centre for Copywriters! They loved my writing and thought it was noteworthy and strong.
After writing Trieshay’s Silver Spoon, I decided to write another book. I tend to write about my life a lot and thought about a particular incident that I mentioned I would exploit because I think it was that ridiculous. Disorderly Conduct on a Flyer is a charge I faced in Kansas. I literally hit a flyer and knocked it to the floor and was arrested. The charge did lead to something different, which provided a special twist when writing the book. I wanted someone to hear my side of the story because what I was really charged with was a serious allegation that I was not guilty of. Disorderly Conduct on a Flyer is real, and I wrote it based on the court transcript in hopes that it may help someone in my position and bring peace between officers and communities. It expresses how small, petty things can lead to trouble in so many ways and I wrote that it changes lives in non-petty ways. I did introduce a resolution/bill to resolve petty offenses like fines/tickets being given over this situation.
I did progress after writing Disorderly Conduct on a Flyer. I hope things get better. I continued to write more, and I now have a third book coming out and it’s going through publishers. I missed the part where it says FULL manuscript the day, I sent it off, but I sent it. They loved the 2 chapters I wrote for the book so far and said if I finish, they’d publish it! I was astounded that I found a great publisher to release it! It is finished and written, so now I am creating a children’s book to have when it’s finished.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work a 9-5 like everyone else to pay for my books, which are expensive. What sets me apart from others is experience. I also work with a team. Everyone’s life is a story, but everyone will not write about it. That takes courage, plus my life happens to be full of crazy drama. In Trieshay’s Silver Spoon, I don’t exactly write the order things happened in my dating life, I used situations from my life to interpret the truth to protect the characters in the book. It is the truth in a different form. Professionally, I got where I am today by reading. I always work hard to learn something new every day. Learning is growth to me, and it can help you make the right decisions. Financially, I do have to make hard sacrifices to get what I want. I overcome the challenge by ignoring what I make and living who I want to be. I am a book author, so I will find a way to write a book! I’ve learned that in order to be happy, I should be who I want to be. I am a book author and I want the world to know that they should never give up on life or following a dream that is meant to be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I was in Colorado, I would spend the week at the Great Wolf Lodge with my friend and our kids. I would love sipping at the bar comfortably watching my kid play in the waves of the pool. You can do so much there we would enjoy it a lot After getting dressed, I would take a trip downtown just to ride the horse in the carriage to the Yardhouse to eat a spicy tuna roll together. The next day, I would go shopping and find a carnival to walk around in. After the carnival, we can hang out and smoke recreation at the hotel. We can eat breakfast in the morning and take our kids to a park to play, before leaving.

If I was in my hometown, Wichita, KS, we would spend the week in an Airbnb. I would invite some family and friends over for a BBQ by the pool and we would enjoy the day eating BBQ and catching up at the Airbnb. The next day, we would go out to eat at Redrock before going to the spa to get massages and nails done. Since that would take all day, we would schedule hair appointments and get outfits to go out to a bar for a while. We can eat breakfast in the morning and see what’s going on at the downtown arena or find a live band playing for the night downtown, before leaving.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out God for giving me the dream, my mother for her love and support, MarkParis for my hair, my daughter, my sisters, Ivory, Su and Kale Parker, Robyn, Daniel, my support team, my grandma, my publishers, Ahmad, Destry for his love, and Renquierre who gave me the magical words of love that helped me encourage finding love again.
