We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started Mission Possible Fitness as a solution to a problem. During the 2020 pandemic shutdown, the tenants in our warehouse space left before their lease was up. In the process of finding new tenants, I used part of the space to open up my private personal training studio in an effort to help save our investment. I wanted to create a space where other personal trainers and fitness instructors could bring their clients and train them in a professional space without having to work for me. I learned a lot working for other gyms and studios, but the lack of freedom over how I trained and how much I charged for my services made doing what I love more challenging. I was blessed with an opportunity to have an amazing studio to do my own thing, and I wanted to share that with other fitness professionals. They only pay for the hours they use my studio-no monthly fees or rent, and they run their own businesses.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I began as a personal trainer because I have many family and friends who struggle with chronic pain and mental health issues that prevent them from exercising or living a healthy lifestyle. I have a BS in Public Health and have always loved learning how to be healthier. For me, what sets me apart as a personal trainer is that I also struggle with chronic pain and mental health issues. I cannot push my body as hard as I would love to, so I have had to learn my limits and how to listen very carefully to my body. People who struggle with similar issues are drawn to me because I focus on functional movement, corrective exercise, and recovery techniques. I focus on strengthening our bodies without injury and with long term goals in mind. For many years I would compare myself to other trainers who push their clients and brag about their weight loss journeys with pictures and numbers, and felt like I wasn’t doing enough. I’ve come to learn that numbers and pictures are not the only ways to progress in our health journey, and can sometimes be detrimental to our mental health as part of the process. I want my clients to feel good in their bodies by reducing pain, staying mobile and functional, and feeling the mental health benefits of regular exercise.
As part of my journey to help others with their health and fitness, I have been able to help other fitness professionals as well. By opening up Mission Possible Fitness, I have created a professional space where others can bring their clients or host their classes without all the headache of working for someone else, or paying the overhead cost of leasing and equipping a professional space of their own. Learning to be a small business owner has definitely been a learning experience, including what programs to use, what equipment to invest in, and how to be the type of person people want to work with.
I want people to know that I am in the business of caring for and helping others. I don’t feel like my studio needs to compete with other studios or fitness places. We all have something to offer, and there is plenty of business to go around. If I can’t help someone, I love to have a network of professionals to refer them to. In that same spirit, my goal is to help other personal trainers and fitness instructors be as successful as they can when they come and use my studio!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love my hometown of Castle Rock! I would definitely take them to the Miller Activity Complex to do all of the fun indoor and outdoor activities, such as the pool, indoor trampolines, amazing hiking trails, incline, and parks. I would also do the zip lines and Epic Sky Trek with Edge Ziplines.
I would take them to eat at the Great Divide for lunch or dinner and B&B Cafe for breakfast.
I love shopping at the Emporium and the Barn for unique gifts, as well as walking around the Outlets and the Promenade.
I recently spent a weekend up at Avalanche Ranch in Redstone, CO. I would absolutely take my best friend there! I love all of the many hot springs in Colorado, but this location took a top spot on my favorites list! It’s quaint, quiet, and beautiful!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Chris Thompson. He has always invested his time and money wisely, which ultimately allowed me the amazing opportunity to start and run my own business. He chose to invest in me because he believes in what I can offer others. He knows when I am at my studio, I am in my happy place, and that carries over into my family and my marriage.
