Meet Todd Larson | Tattoo artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Todd Larson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Todd, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
It took me a long time to understand how harmful over working was. Ambition and achievement were leading values. After some intense difficulties with my health I’m learning to be more present. And to take life as it unfolds. I sense greater fulfillment in my work and more consistent output.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a post traditional tattooer. Which means I draw a lot of inspiration from American traditional designs, but I break a few of the “rules”; such multiple lines weights and a broader color pallete. My designs are composed on golden ratios and natural proportions that I feel bring a comfortable and balanced feeling to the tattoo. Early on in my career I felt easily overwhelmed, with the amount of walkins I was doing. Choosing to leave a street shop for a private studio was extremely important to me having the freedom to work in and develop my style. I think the greatest lesson and artist can learn is to be authentic to themselves. People will be drawn to what is true to itself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think we’d start out at music city hot chicken for lunch. Then we’d hike up horse tooth. Beers at new Belgium and live music at clover lick banjo shop.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate to Chris and Annie, the owners of Lakeview tattoo, whom give incredible support.
