We had the good fortune of connecting with Tori Latham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tori, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have searched for where my journey was leading to for so long. I went to school for political science and criminology only to find out, I really didn’t care to do that. I then did random jobs and ended up in social media marketing. This job was great for years but I started to dislike being on social media for so many clients all the time. Photography was incorporated into the job and I took it upon myself to take coursed to really learn my camera and do a better job. I instantly started to love shooting for other businesses and capturing the essence of them. At the end of 2024 I had a goal to get out of my role at the marketing job and pursue photography. I dove headfirst into creating my business. I got started before everything was even set up because I wanted to get my name out there in the community. It’s always been my dream to do something for myself and I finally found my passion. I love taking photos and messing with my camera. There is a sense of art that goes into it and it’s something I love giving to people. I have started dabbling in portraits too and love that area just as much as taking pictures for small businesses.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Tori Latham Photography, is based in the heart of Durango, Colorado. I specialize in product and brand photography, helping small businesses and creatives tell their story through intentional, high-quality visuals. I believe in capturing more than just a pretty picture—my goal is to reflect the heart, personality, and essence of each brand I work with.

What sets me apart is the deep connection I build with my clients. I’m not just showing up with a camera; I’m investing in your business, your goals, and your vision. As a mom, a wife, and someone who values genuine connection, I bring empathy, attention to detail, and creativity into every shoot. I work best with people who love what they do and want that love to shine through their photos.

This business has been years in the making. I didn’t go to photography school or take a traditional path—I learned through hands-on experience, trial and error, and a lot of self-teaching and passion. Getting to where I am now hasn’t been easy. I’ve had to fight through imposter syndrome, learn to balance family life and business, and wear every hat—photographer, editor, marketer, bookkeeper—you name it. But every challenge taught me something valuable: how to trust myself, how to show up even when it’s scary, and how to grow sustainably and intentionally.

One of the things I’m most proud of is building a business that feels like me—aligned with my values and creativity. I want the world to know that my photography isn’t about trends or surface-level beauty—it’s about storytelling, connection, and helping others feel proud of what they’ve created. I’m so excited for where this journey is going next, and I’m grateful for every client who’s trusted me to help bring their vision to life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit Durango, I’d make sure they experienced a little bit of everything that makes this town so special. We’d start with wandering around the local shops and grabbing bites at some of my favorite spots like Toms Deli, Zia Taqueria, Upper East Side Deli, and maybe a cold beer at Ska Brewery to cap off the day.

We’d spend a few days out on the trails—Durango is full of them—but I’d definitely take them up to Highland Mary Lakes in Silverton, one of my all-time favorite hikes for both the views and the peace and quiet. We’d mix in some mountain biking and a river day, too—rafting and paddleboarding are a must in the summer!

Evenings would be all about slowing down. We’d grab takeout and head back to my home where we could soak in the mountain views, watch the sunset, and just relax. A visit to Cream Bean Berry for ice cream would happen more than once, I’m sure, and we’d end at the Durango Winery for a glass of wine and a little local charm.

And of course, my husband and kiddo would be part of it all—because for me, adventure and connection go hand-in-hand. Durango is a gem, and it’s even better when shared with the people you love.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, David Latham is my number one supporter. No matter what I have wanted to pursue or try, he has always found a way to make sure I can do it! My sole confidence comes from him helping me realize I can do hard things and I can be the best at what ever I set out to do. Having the support from him means the world and helps me keep pushing to achieve my dreams.
