Meet Verona Matthews | Project Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Verona Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Verona, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in South Africa. 8 years ago the company my husband works for offered him a position at their Denver offices and well here we are. It has been such a whirlwind – as I never imagined myself ever immigrating. I have a close-knit family and have worked a corporate career my entire adult life, but having this amazing opportunity present itself was a challenge I was more than willing to take. Moving to the US was an opportunity for me to reinvent myself and truly do what made me happy. This took years to figure out, and I’m pretty sure I still don’t have all the answers, but I do know that I am an amazing cheerleader to those whose passions & values align with mine. Hence, I created a business where I provide project management services ( projects vary from event planning to client relations, creating sales funnels, and managing marketing platforms etc, etc.) anything my client needs done that takes her away from growing her business. This spirit of community is what my upbringing has prepared me for my entire life. I was raised in the African philosophy of “ubuntu” — a concept in which your sense of self is shaped by your relationships with other people. It’s a way of living that begins with the premise that “I am” only because “we are.” And that is the basis of everything I do every day.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a black, female immigrant, who left her entire family behind and followed her newlywed husband halfway across the world, at the age of 35, I am well versed in challenges. The challenge of being a minority ( 3 times over – because yes, ageism is a thing) as well as a new wife trying to find her way in an unknown country. I thrive in challenging situations, and in finding solutions that make my life easier. This is what my business does for entrepreneurs. My business is supporting solopreneurs by doing the tasks they either are not skilled too or tasks that take up too much time and keep them from doing what they do best – going out there are making money. I become a part of their business and while managing these tasks offer invaluable business insights on how they can improve the current status quo. Maybe it’s not rocket science, and they simply need an extra set of hands to handle an event they are planning. Maybe it’s looking at their customer service and helping them map out and implement their customer’s life cycle journey. Whatever the project is, the outcome remains the same – Let me do this while you focus on getting your name out there. There have been many challenges that I overcome by asking for help. I am a firm believer that humility will save you from sleepless nights, heartache, and losing money. When I had a challenge, I asked the mentors around me for help and they sure did. The most important lesson I learned, is that if you don’t love it, don’t do it. Because it will eventually kill your spirit.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love food – so many of the activities will be centered around food. A good breakfast restaurant can be found all around Colorado so that is how we will start our days. I would also take her to some of our amazing hiking trails and lookout points that our mountains have to offer. Good wine is a must as well as cooking for her on the night we stay in and sit around my kitchen table, chatting the night away.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have made an amazing group of friends who have become my chosen family. Their love, acceptance, and mentorship have made me a better person and I am eternally grateful for their guidance.
