We had the good fortune of connecting with Victor Meza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victor, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been fascinated with cameras and taking pictures of other people. Growing up I got to use some friends and family’s cameras and such, and as time went on smart phones starting to get better and better cameras and it just fascinated me. I ended up taking a photography class in High School and winning a few awards as well as taking yearbook and just absolutely loving that. I had a fellow classmate who always let me use her professional cannon camera, in which I cannot remember the model, I always tried to find any excuse to use her camera. Then just one year in 2015 I saved up my money and ended up buying a camera of my own, a Canon Rebel T5, And ever since then I’ve done nothing but practice and improve, and in the process I have met so many wonderful and unique people and I couldn’t be more grateful for everyone helping come as far as I have. I’d very much like to think that I have come a long way in my photography since I started. That’s what drives me, to further improve and meet new people, create magic and works of art for friends, family or strangers alike.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to think that everyone is unique, people are creative and each has their own way to express it even if they are similar they aren’t all the same. I like to keep a lot of my work more natural, the men, the women or even the landscapes it’s all about keeping things natural. Everyone is beautiful and I love to show that in my photos. I’m excited to see how much more I improve and how much further I am going to go, when I’ll have my own studio and my own travel photography business more consistent. It hasn’t been an easy journey by any means, it’s not cheap for one and there are a lot of obstacles you have to work around doing this professionally. I’ve learned you have to keep moving forward, know you’re worth and to keep you’re head up. Also that no amount of practice is enough, you always have room for improvement, and that’s ok!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have a ton of places as I love to eat and travel and experience all that there is to explore. If we are talking just Colorado there’s a few places, Black Bear diner would be one of the go to spots as it’s always a good time and great food. I’d take them up to Garden of the gods and Cheyenne mountain for a bit of hiking and natural scenery, a bit of history there too. Enjoy the walk through of old Colorado City and Manitou Springs. Fujiyama is a great sushi spot in downtown Colorado Springs. Jack Quinns is a great pub also near there for some drinks and entertainment. Up next in the week I’d take a drive up to the overlook in Cheyenne mountain or the Palmer park overlook and just enjoy a sunset or sunrise. If possible I’d hit the sand dunes. There’s so many beautiful places in Colorado it’s absolutely impossible to pick only a a few to explore.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d definitely like to thank my great friend Zane Ford and Kyle Sanchez for always helping me and encouraging me to keep moving forward and just putting the confidence in my head. I’d also like to thank my old friend Jacie Walton for helping me and nurturing my curiosity for photography. And of course my family and friends along the way who support me and help me with my dreams. Also like to thank all the people I’ve met along the way and worked with who helped me get to where I am.
