We had the good fortune of connecting with Victor Teran and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victor, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson(s) I have learned in my career with martial arts is the value of patience, discipline, perseverance, and character building. Martial arts require consistent practice, dedication, and strong work ethic to improve and master the techniques. Through martial arts training, I have learned to push through challenges, stay focused on my goals and those of the team, and to never give up; even when faced with obstacles in life. These lessons have not only helped me in my martial arts journey, but also in other aspects of my life. As well as guiding and assisting those in our team.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an 8th degree black belt and a master instructor at International Taekwon-Do Academy. Every discipline and school have something amazing to offer to their students and parents. I will generalize here as I am also writing about our school and team. There are six (6) things we can discuss about what can set us apart from others. Here we go:

1. Teaching style and Philosophy: Some schools focus mainly on traditional martial arts values and discipline, while others may emphasize modern training methods and practical applications. At International Taekwon-Do we do both!

2. Instructor Expertise and Experience: This can be a factor that can make a great difference in any school. Highly skilled and knowledgeable instructors can provide quality instruction and guidance to students. Giving every student the opportunity to pick up a set of skills that should be nurtured with time and dedication by both student and teacher. We have over 35 years of teaching experience, teaching youth, adults, military, and federal law enforcement.

3. Curriculum and Program: Martial arts schools may offer a wide range of styles, specialized training programs, and additional classes such as self-defense, sparring/close quarter, fitness, competition training, etc. International Taekwon-Do Academy is proud to provide these opportunities to every student in our team. In addition to giving students (18+ year olds), the opportunity to train as a professional fighter in a martial arts professional league like Kombat Taekwondo, if they choose to.

4. Training Environment: Our training center is a safe and welcoming training space with adequate equipment that will enhance every student’s learning experience.

5. Student Success and Sense of Community: International Taekwon-Do Academy prioritizes student’s success, progress, and community engagement. Read about students and parents testimonials, success stories, and our strong bond as a community and family.

6. Focus on Values and Character Development: International Taekwon-Do Academy emphasizes family and personal values, respect, discipline, humility, and personal growth. We focus on character development and life skills in addition to physical, mental, and spiritual training.

So, when you ask about what sets us apart from others, I can simply say it is the way we train and how we carry ourselves on and off the mats. I am grateful to have students and parents who have created a strong community and a safe zone for everyone involved in our training center. I continue to teach, because I have these amazing people in my life who I can share my knowledge and teachings in martial arts. We have become a FAMILY!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you are a person who enjoys family time, sightseeing and nature, I would recommend road trips to Estes Park, Sand Dunes, or any National Park. Places to visit in the winter would be Hot Springs, Vail, Breckenridge, Aspen to name a few…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to give a huge shoutout to two (2) amazing organizations we are proud of being part of; Kombat Taekwondo and Sport Karate West. Our purpose at a martial arts school is to provide a safe place where students learn not only self-defense and sparring but are also given opportunities to compete against other schools. We focus on: Skill development, personal growth, sportsmanship and respect, community building and teamwork.
