We had the good fortune of connecting with wayne bodmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi wayne, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory.” To me it means to basically just start. When I’m trying out new designs or learning new techniques sometimes I’ll hang because of not wanting to sacrifice the materials to what may be underwhelming outcomes to say the least. Yet you just have to do it to progress.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create art that is a bit different and fun. What I hear alot of is your art is very whimsical. I’m totally fine with this and love to add a bit of the unusual to life. I got to where I am today by just pushing forward. Carving out time to create while raising kids and working a full time job isn’t the most exciting of times. Keep learning new techniques and look at other peoples are of all kinds. Keep an open mind to what others are doing. Try new things to keep yourself interested as well keep others interested in your works. The lessons that I have learned along the way are not everything has to be perfect in your art, in your house etc. It will all just keep moving along, don’t sweat the small stuff.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To have the best times in New Mexico you would have to do the Canyon road in Santa Fe, this is a street filled with different art installations. Take in the Santa Fe Plaza with the street vendors, usually a good assortment of Native American artist vending on one section. While you are there you have to have some pastries from Chocolate Maven. On another day you would want to do the ALB art walk off central. This is held the first Friday of each month to meet local artist and have a taste of local cuisine from food truck vendors. Going to the mountains is always a must as well on one day. Taking the tramway up to the top of the mountain or driving up I 40 to the peak to ingest the views and the mountain air. One day taking walking or riding your bike down the Rio Grande on the paths is great time as well. You can pick up a Satellite coffee before you head in for a nice cup of coffee or tea to enhance your walk. I enjoy catch and release fishing so a trip up to the Jemez mountains would be on the itinerary. Going to Fenton lake to fish and relax a bit with a bit of offroading for fun. The lake is shaded and pretty wooded compared to other lakes in New Mexico.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Belen art league in Belen New Mexico has been a great help to get me out there in a different community. They support me in multiple ways and the community itself. They help all artists get their items in the public eye and have events.
