We had the good fortune of connecting with Wild Roses and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wild Roses, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We never knew where it would take us when we signed up for a talent show at our college in the spring of 2020. But here we are–close to three years later–Wild Roses, an established Nebraska rock band. At the start, we focused more on scheduling shows and driving hours to meet and rehearse over that summer, but it soon became clear that it was going to stick. With time came a logo as well as t-shirts and other merchandise, bigger and better equipment and–most importantly–people that enjoy our music.
Since our formation, we have released our “Wild Roses EP,” two singles with “The Flame” and “Medicine,” and most recently our EP “Blooming.” Wild Roses currently consists of Cassie Brown on lead vocals and guitar, Steven Koehn on drums, and Ryan Swenson on bass guitar. We are striving to continue to share our music as much as possible as well as to keep learning and growing as a business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Wild Roses is a hard rock band from Kearney, Nebraska. We may be in our 20s, but our common influences lie in ‘70s and ‘80s rock, as well as some more diverse personal music influences. With our ages and the style of music we play, almost anyone can connect with us.
Right now, we are promoting our latest EP “Blooming” that was released on October 14th of this year. This EP was recorded locally with Kent Lutt of Tone Tree Audio, LLC and mastered by Saff Mastering. We had been working up to a project like this since our beginnings, and we’re so pleased with the result.
We’ve definitely gone through some challenges in our close to three years as a band, such as lineup changes which led to a couple periods of uncertainty, but we’ve been able to continue through those harder moments stronger than ever. We love what we do, and that drives us to keep pushing forward.
Through Wild Roses, we have learned quite a few lessons, musically, personally, and from a business standpoint. We have grown into our craft and become better musicians and better performers. We have also learned to market ourselves and have built a website as well as created a social media presence. Each of us has a place in the band with certain responsibilities that allow everything to run smoothly.
We have played a lot in Nebraska, and we are looking to branch out to other states, as well. Whether it be at a small bar or a packed street at an outdoor festival, we find joy in playing for any size of crowd. We were even able to open for the band Tantric last year, which was a fantastic opportunity. We want to keep pursuing those opportunities and play for as many people as we can in the hopes that we can make even a small connection or impact for each audience.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As musicians, of course we have to provide the best destinations for fellow music lovers! It’s easy to spend hours at Buffalo Records looking for the perfect addition to a music collection, and it’s a good idea to check out Yandas Music for any instrument or equipment needs, or even just to look around.
There are a number of venues to catch some live music in Kearney, Nebraska, but there’s a good chance you’d see Wild Roses performing at The Other Side, Gillie’s, or even Joe’s Honky Tonk. During the warmer months, you may be able to see us at some outdoor shows, as well!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We are very appreciative of all the people that have attended our shows, purchased our merch, bought CDs or streamed our music. We are nothing without our fan base! We are also thankful for our photographers who have provided us with great images we can share and use to grow our social media accounts! And, of course, we cannot forget all the venues that have taken a chance on us and hired Wild Roses to perform!
