We had the good fortune of connecting with Zac Stracener and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zac, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Filmmaking has always been apart of me. When I was 8 years old my little sister was having her second birthday party. I picked up the families $50 dollar video recorder and started filming the party. It changed my life. I’m 25 now and more in love with film than ever before. Telling stories that can change or even save a life is more than a passion, it is truly a love.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Storytelling has always been a passion of mine, from an early age I fell in love film. I naturally gravitated toward darker subject matter. The darkness gives sovereignty to the light. I have struggled with depression for most of my life. Mental health awareness is subject matter my heart and soul is passionate about igniting conversation on. I’m fueled to bring real awareness to this topic. There is so much to be learned about one another. I truly believe we can change the world through the power of film.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my buddy Jordan is in town we are immediately headed to Little Owl to have some coffee! My wife and I love trying new food spots and finding the hidden gems. Alot of our free time is spent writing music and scripts while hanging with our cat. Dream come true.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my wife, Athena, who not only pushes me to be a better director but more importantly to be a better man, every single day. And to my grandparents, Ray and Karen, who raised me and believed in me enough to let me chase my dreams.
