We had the good fortune of connecting with Zach “Iggy” Ingenthrone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zach “Iggy”, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Growing up, I always had some sort of side hustle and I think it just became part of my personality. So many of my friends are business owners – and you know they say you are the average of the 5 people you hang around so it was my turn! I’ve started to see the world through the lense of a business owner. It just so happened that metal fabrication aligned with my passion as an entrepreneur and a solution to a gap in the market.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is the ability to take the napkin sketch and usually within one or two iterations, I can reach/exceed my customer’s expectations. I’m most excited about where this business is headed. Even the challenges I haven’t faced or the problems I haven’t solved yet get me excited to grow my business. I really enjoy being the creator that brings these dreams and visions to life through custom metalwork. Business is definitely not easy. To quote Ray Dalio, “Pain + Reflection = Progress”. Some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to check the ego at the door. If you think you have all the right answers, there’s no room for growth. There has got to be the willingness to learn. When I run into an obstacle, I just repeat this phrase to myself: “you’re not good enough – YET.” If you had all the answers, you’d already be where you want to be.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our family loves to tour cities through food! We would probably have to swing by a Brewery – one of our favorites is the Station Public House. You’ve got to check out The Brickyard for the best burger in town. And when it comes to wine tasting Amador County has some of the best hidden gems in the area.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people and events that led me here for sure. Even the haters that helped shape me into who I am now! But I definitely have to give credit to one of the first books I read on being an entrepreneur: Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. It lead me down the road for personal development and that road has completely changed my life. I also have to recognize my best friend Ryan who always listened to my crazy ideas and pushed me to achieve them. And of course my wife has been there to “keep the train on the tracks” as I always tell her. Sometimes I go 1000 miles an hour in one direction. Someone has to keep their feet on the ground for me!
