We had the good fortune of connecting with Zach Sharp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zach, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
I would love to see Domestique franchised all over the country and operating with the vision that I started this company with. Provide quality work at a fair price with friendly and informative information. I always want Domestique to be a shop where new and experienced riders are comfortable asking questions and talking to their Domestique.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Domestique is a full service mobile bike shop that comes to you whether you’re at home or work we come to wherever you are. What sets us apart is our friendly and informative service. I hated going into a bike shop and being treated like an idiot if I didn’t ask the right question or if I didn’t know what a part was called. I want everyone that works with Domestique to feel comfortable asking questions and maybe when we leave they might have learned something new.

Stick it out. Starting and operating a business is difficult, it requires a lot of patience, sacrifice and tenacity. There will be days where you question everything about why you’re doing this but you have to remember your “why”. Surround yourself with people that support you but that are also honest with you. Honest feedback is key and will help keep you on the path.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned through everything is that you’re going to have awesome days and you’re going to have really bad days, the bad days are the days when you win. You have to be able to recover from a problem or something going wrong and reset to be ready for the next customer.

I want everyone to know that starting a business is hard but also exciting and can be very rewarding. Be patient with yourself and write down things you’ve learned a long the way, then later down the road you can look back and see how far you’ve come.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a huge breakfast person so I would be taking them to The Buff in Boulder, Waffle Brothers in Denver and Moxie in Louisville for incredible pastries and sandwiches. I would be sure to hike Chataqua park in Boulder then head to Nederland for coffee at New Moon Bakery. Go for a ride down the South Platte and hang out near the water near REI. I would grab dinner and a drink at the Ale House in Denver then finish off the night with ice cream at Sweet Cow.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost I couldn’t have done this without my mom and dad. My dad was the one that came up with the name and as soon as I heard it I knew that was going to be it. My dad owns his business and is the one I come to when I need guidance for any issues that arise. My mom for encouraging me and for always believing in me even when I wasn’t certain starting a business was the right way to go. To my friend Jorge that I worked with at a construction job over the years while my business was just starting out. We were talking early on when work was slow and full of uncertainty and he said something that sticks with me to this day ” You’ll make it, you wait and see” something so simple but it kept me going when times were slow.
