We had the good fortune of connecting with Zandra Silver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zandra, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I try to draw inspiration from everything in my life, I feel like we all go through a period as artists where we strive for originality and uniqueness and it can be easy to forget all art is inspired by other art. I strive to surround myself with other creative minds, especially those with art styles that differ from mine. Some of my favorite tricks I’ve learned to utilize my light while I model came from information I gained at a painting class. I gain a lot of inspiration from other artists, Vivienne Westwood, Hope Macaulay, and @RelmArtist are three artist that have very much inspired me recently.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been modeling for 10 years now and I have recently started saying that what I really am is an artist that uses their body as their medium. When I started modeling I quickly got boxed into the boudoir category, and it was not easy to break free from. While I enjoyed the work I was very aware that I wanted more from it, but I wasn’t exactly sure how to achieve that. It wasn’t until I began figure modeling that my love and passion for modeling came back in full force. It brought the art back into my work and thats what I had been missing. With every image I create I want to invoke a certain feeling or thought, and taking my art back to its roots, its core, with figure modeling I now feel I have the skill and ability to create some truly beautiful work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever people come to town I always tell them to visit red rocks and 16th street mall. I was born and raised in Colorado, I’ve been here my whole life and those two spots make me think of home more than anywhere else! Colorado is such a diverse place, one of the many reasons I’m proud to call this state my home, but I think to get to whole picture you have to go to the mountains and the city! Recently my favorite place to go have been The Edgewater Marketplace and Avanti F&B, I adore the more communal layout especially after spending so much time indoors the past few years. They are great spots to meet new people or just do some people watching, both of which I love!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I started out my modeling career when I was 17 and was signed with an agency for a year. That didn’t really suit me, so after the year was up I decided to go independent! Immediately after going independent I was welcomed with open arms into a community of local Denver photographers, artists, and models. For the first time I got a chance to explore my creativity and spent time in the community learning from each other and growing as artists. At this point I really began to find myself as a person! Very thankful for the meetups hosted by Don Hales and Brett Seeley!
