Stories, Lessons & Insights

We were fortunate to catch up with some brilliant artists, creatives and entrepreneurs from throughout the Houston area and they share the wisdom with us below.

After working with hundreds of women – helping them with everything from fertility, to hormone regulation, to reversing pre-diabetes, to inflammation and bloating, to postpartum weight loss, to that frustrating “stuck” feeling so many of us have in between. And while every woman’s story was unique, I kept seeing the same root problem showing up again and again: blood sugar swings.
Blood sugar imbalance was behind the mood swings, the crashes, the brain fog, and the stubborn weight that wouldn’t budge. Read More>>

As a parent, the most important thing I’ve done for my daughter, Annalisia, is to make sure she knows who she is, where she comes from, and that she belongs. I’ve made it a priority to surround her with culture, language, and traditions that connect her to her roots. Whether it’s building an ofrenda together for Día de los Muertos, dancing at community festivals, or sharing the stories of our family and history, I want her to feel the richness of where she comes from. Mother Tree Somatic Healing offers a gentle antidote to the challenges of our times. In a culture where tension and disconnection are too often the norm, Mother Tree creates spaces to slow down, tune in, and tend to body, mind, heart, and soul. Read More>>

Passion and integrity have been the most important drivers of success in my life. I found that pursuing those things I am most passionate about, the power of music and education, make it easier for me to maintain the integrity needed for excellence in any aspect of what I do. Because I believe so wholeheartedly in what I do and who I do it for, it creates an intrinsic motivation and keeps me grounded and authentic. Success is never a straight path, but staying true to what I love and who I serve has guided me toward excellence and impact Read More>>

The most common conventional advice that I disagree with is what we learn when are young – to go when we feel ready. We all know they saying, “ready, set, go.”
I’ve also heard on it recently on many podcasts about trying to figure 100 % of things out first so you don’t have to fix things down the road. I evolve the most when I start taking massive action steps. I have flipped the script with “ready, set, go” and changed it to “go, set, ready”. If it wasn’t for the micro failures and mistakes, I would not have the opportunities and clients that I do now. Read More>>
A common piece of advice is to “wait until you’re ready” before putting yourself out there. In art, you’ll never feel 100% ready. I disagree with waiting, because growth only happens when you start. Listing my work online, applying to shows, and presenting my art to the public—even before I felt “perfectly ready”—has been what pushed me to grow, adapt, and improve faster than if I had waited for the right time. For years, I poured myself into every cut, joint, and finish—shaping each piece by hand until it felt right. That craftsmanship is still at the heart of Dust & Spark, but I’ve come to realize that building a lasting brand isn’t about doing it all myself. It’s about building capacity through people. I’m from Northwest Indiana, about an hour outside of Chicago, in a small town nestled along the south shore of Lake Michigan. I grew up near the Indiana Dunes National Park, surrounded by rich ecosystems—but despite that proximity, nature never truly felt accessible to me. As a Mexican kid in a predominantly white town, I didn’t always see myself reflected in outdoor spaces or environmental education. My community didn’t emphasize connecting with the land, and it wasn’t until I was almost an adult that I began to build a meaningful relationship with the ecosystems around me. Read More>>
