What habits do you feel helped you succeed?

There is a wealth of research that indicates that certain habits can help increase your productivity, creativity, and/or drive. So, we thought we’d reach out to respected members of our community and ask them what habits they feel helped them succeed.

I was raised and came from a generation with a strong work ethic. I commit to my clients by showing up on time, offering timely communication and delivering excellent value! The skills I learned as a teenager still serve me today. I treat my clients with respect and kindness. It is very important to set healthy boundaries, both for my clients and for self-preservation. This helps me avoid burnout. I engage in self- care practices such as outdoor walks (oh the benefit of fresh air and sun!), alone time to journal, meditate and record my daily gratitude. It’s important to me to stay connected to family and friends. I follow a morning routine called SAVERS which stands for Silence, Affirmations, Visualizations, Exercise (I do morning stretches), Reading and Scribing (writing). Read more>>

I had a professor in graduate school remind me often that sometimes the most challenging part of the creative process is simply starting. It can feel overwhelming and daunting to see that blank canvas, empty artboard or vacant page sitting in front of us. We begin to ruminate over questions like… where will this project end up? Will it be groundbreaking or uninteresting? Is it even worth my time? But the minute I put pen to paper, so to speak, the rest seems to fall into place. Succeeding as a curly hair specialist and business owner didn’t happen overnight, but there are a few habits that I believe helped me get here.
