Artists and creatives face innumerable challenges given that their career path often doesn’t come with a playbook, a steady paycheck or any form of safety net. It’s definitely not easy and so we asked a few of the artists and creatives we admire to talk to us about why they chose to pursue an artistic or creative career.

I grew up in a household where creativity was heavily encouraged- my dad an avid music lover, and my mom an artist herself. I was interested in music from a young age after observing my older brothers as they took up lessons and worked at their respective instruments on a daily basis. Music has been with me all my life; It’s given me an Avenue to express myself and my emotions, and I feel most at home when I’m writing, performing, recording, or working with other artists. Like for many of us, my love for expressing myself through art started in my childhood. I was raised in a home where fortunately, art and creativity were encouraged and celebrated. I was always a creative kid, drawing, painting, beading, and doing other crafts, but I quickly learned to capitalize on my talents. I used to paint rocks with extremely detailed designs and then started painting other found objects like bottle and cans, and soda can tabs as necklace charms.
