We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, what do you want people to remember about you?
Any time someone views an image or purchases a print telling me how it reminds them of a person, a place or a feeling then I feel like I’ve achieved my goal. As a photographer I find it the biggest compliment to be able to transport someone back to a long ago memory.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I discovered photography as a passion when I was 18 & feel that even when my path has changed I’ve always come back to it. Photography is part of who I am, & without it I feel like something is missing. The journey hasn’t been easy, lots of trying to find myself in my work & accepting that not everyone is going to like it. But as I’ve grown & found myself on a personal level it has helped me become more secure in my art. I wish I could make a living off it but for the moment knowing it is out there in the world is enough to keep me moving forward.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I was stuck in the midwest then I would take them to Shawnee National Forest for sunset in the Garden of the Gods. A picnic on the top! Chicago is always a great visit, I love wandering round the South Loop with my camera, getting my Nando’s fix & relaxing by Lake Michigan.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been lucky to meet so many incredible talented photographers over the years including my photography teachers who have pushed me & help me discover what I love. But also the friends I have made through the Etsy community who continue to inspire me & will forever be my cheerleaders (& I theirs).
