We had the good fortune of connecting with House of Horrors and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi House of Horrors, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
My legacy is something I obsess over. For some reason, I am terrified by the thought of not leaving something behind. The entire reason I wanted to write music is to inspire others to use their skills the way I am. I want my legacy to be the artist that changes lives with my words. I simply want to be the answer to the question, “who inspired you?” When I think of my legacy, I always have the same ideas. I want to put a twist on music that changes the game forever. I want to be one of the leaders in a new era of rock music. If I’m not guiding others to where I am at and where I want to be, then I’m just not doing this right.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up listening to classic rock and only got into rap music in the past few years. I think it’s due to this that I always had a different vision for my music than most people. I wanted to merge the instrumental and emotional aspects of classic songs with the energy of modern electronic and hip hop. I think that my tone overall is something to be proud of. I have much to learn, but I know how to offer a new sound. However, this comes with its own challenges. Some rock artists think I’m too electronic, and vice versa. When I create music, I have uniqueness as my top priority regardless. Rule number one of releasing your art; make it your own. I want my music to offer something new to every pair of ears that listens! If my stories leave anything with you, let it be that true art comes from the heart. When you stop caring about the meaning behind it, your art becomes content. Let’s be honest here, no real musician wants to be a content creator.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first things first, no trip to Colorado is complete without visiting the Rocky Mountains. Whether it be a small excursion through the trees or an overnight stay in a tent, the Rockies are the perfect place for anybody visiting the state. Red Rocks of course is a must-see as well. With beautiful views and amazing concerts, who could pass it down? Down in the city, there are plenty of places to stop as well. The 16th Street Mall features vendors and performers all across the road. Complete with a Colorado store, movie theater, and all the food you’ll ever need, this makes for the best Colorado Gift Shop a tourist could visit! There truly are so many amazing places to visit throughout Colorado, and each area has something great to offer.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe everything I’ve achieved to the people who have supported me. My parents and stepparents have always been supportive of my dreams, and they have taken any steps they could have to help me reach my goals. I also have five siblings, each of which have helped me with their support. Lastly (but definitely not least), my girlfriend Ivy. She has been such an important part of my life for the past two years and there’s no way I could have made it to where I am without her love and support. Other than my family, I definitely have to thank my teachers at the School of Rock. Over the years they have taught me to play guitar, sing, produce, and even how to get my foot in the door with business. I learned to play guitar at a classical music school to begin with, but I got bored of it. Switching to the School of Rock opened a lot of opportunities for me, including the chance to play dozens of shows.
I think Shoutout Colorado deserves some credit as well. With the Shoutout series, they are helping me progress my story even further.
