We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitlin Meyers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaitlin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Our business has really been influenced by taking risks, starting when my husband quit his job to learn videography and joined my photography business. We then renovated a school bus and traveled across the country, which was an exciting yet unpredictable move. Taking those risks taught us a lot and it thrust us into not only creating a really diverse travel portfolio but also learning a lot about running a successful business. We learned that sometimes taking a risk is necessary as a business and you’ll always be wondering ‘what if?’ if you don’t follow your dreams. Try new things, and when they aren’t successful, accept it and pivot your plans according to what you’ve learned.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We like to incorporate a sense of adventure into our weddings and we like to emphasize the landscape when we can. We also get to know our couples and their interests, and we offer extra services to help our couples be better prepared. For our couples that elope, it can get overwhelming with all of the possibilities, and that’s why we like to help plan their elopement, from locations and timeline to vendor recommendations and an elopement guide. I think that sets apart our work and the experience we offer to the couples we work with! We’ve pushed ourselves a lot in the last few years and it wasn’t easy, but it has shaped our business into what it is today. This business has a lot of ups and downs, especially during the off-season when you’re not shooting as much and mostly preparing for the busy season. To overcome that, we try to stay focused and positive when it’s slow.
Along the way we’ve learned to value our worth and what we have to offer our clients. Photographers and videographers, especially, can undervalue their worth since they’re providing a service and digital products, and the value can be subjective. We have learned that it is important to show how our services and the added value we provide are different than the typical wedding photographer and videographer from the very beginning.
We’re a brand that cares about our couples and how they experience their wedding day. We encourage them to embrace what they value the most, their interests, and what makes their wedding day uniquely them. No matter the wedding size, if they’re celebrating it in a way that feels authentic and meaningful, that is what fuels our passions for our business!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We highly recommend checking out Breckenridge and all it has to offer! Boreas Pass, Loveland Pass, and Blue Lakes are a few of our favorite areas to explore! As far as food, our favorite restaurant is Yo Mamas Cantina. We’ll go there multiple times a day sometimes!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our family and friends have been a huge support for us in our careers, through all of our wild and crazy ideas. Having that support system has been such a relief for us!
