Hi Elisha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
If you don’t like the thought of leaping off a cliff without knowing exactly how the landing will go, don’t become an entrepreneur. I feel like I take leaps into the unknown on a daily basis. Deciding to hire someone and committing to that salary expense, launching a new service offering and figuring out the short comings as I go, expanding into another branch of business, like retail, which is what we are currently working on, and hoping I made the right choice; they all require a commitment to spend money and do the work after the jump has been made.

I take risks even though I know I won’t always have the most successful outcome, but I know I will learn from the experience. Most of the time it is exhilarating, constantly being out of my comfort zone, but sometimes it can wear on me, and that is when I need to hire someone, bring on a partner, or lean on my family, friends, and community. Through the process of running a business, I’ve learned that I am not risk adverse, and that I love the growth that comes with putting myself out there. As a business owner, risk is unavoidable, and I believe that taking risks pushes me to become the best version of myself.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been running a home staging and design business since September 2018, and am about to launch a furniture company with a friend that will also support my other businesses. I believe that what sets us apart is that I am not trying to be a lone design star, but have built an amazing team who all bring their design skills, creative energy, and incredible attitudes to work, and own large parts of projects. Having a team gives me the chance to grow the business and space to be creative. It also allows me to go on vacation, which I know many business owners neglect to do. Not me! I’m going to Mexico with my family next week!

I have gotten to where I am with my business today by being curious and having the belief that I can learn how to do anything. I seek out people who know more about business than I do, and spend a lot of time reading. Since I don’t have formal business training, my business development and growth may be slower than those that do, but since I enjoy the process, and I am the one setting my own deadlines, I’m ok with that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would probably start with The Incline in Manitou Springs. An intense 2000 foot, elevation gain hike that is under 1 mile. It is brutal, beautiful, and satisfying. After the hike, we would have a healthy lunch at Ola’s Juice Bar in downtown Colorado Springs, followed by a pedicure (and a much needed foot and lower leg massage) at Beauty Bar on North Tejon Street. For dinner we would go to Margarita of Pine Creek, for 4 courses of amazing food.

The next day, my visiting friend would probably be sore from the hike, so we would catch a yoga class at Corepower, and after showering, head to Garden of the Gods Cafe for brunch. After that, we’d shop at Colorado Co-op and other cute shops downtown, like Terra Verda. Since massages are critical to the best of girls trips, we’d head to Alluvia Spa at the Cheyenne Mountain Report, and finish the day at my absolute favorite place, White Pie. Their Frozé with a Limoncello floater, and the Burrata Banger Pizza make every day the perfect day.

Dan Niebuhr, my husband, best friend, and biggest cheerleader. He has spent hours listening to me about my business, been on boarding with investing our money to make it happen, and always encourages me when the going gets tough.
