We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Gould and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Before I was able to drum full-time, I definitely spent more of my life focused on things independent from my career. Since quitting my day job, I have really tunneled into drumming, not only because it is my passion, but also as a neuro-diverse business owner having to manage my own work and scheduling. So, over time, my work has absolutely become my life, and I don’t know that I have a balance anymore so much as they have melded and become the norm for me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been drumming for over 22 years now, doing all things drum-related, like live performance, touring, teaching, remote recording, and songwriting. There have been many ups and downs, but what keeps me motivated is my absolute love of drumming. I know I cannot do anything else and feel fulfilled, so I keep working at it. My goal is to share how awesome drumming is with as many people as possible and to encourage others to play and find their own joy in it as well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a Colorado Springs resident, so I would encourage those visiting here to check out the natural parks and landscape here, like Garden of the Gods and Palmer Park, as well as wandering the downtown and Old Colorado City areas. I’m a big fan of German food so I’d take folks to try Uwe’s and Wimberger’s. We also have an array of fantastic coffee houses! This whole city is booming, so there is a LOT to offer anyone coming around.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this Shoutout to my partner, Rachael. She supports my drumming career and my life choices wholeheartedly.
