We had the good fortune of connecting with Logan Ferree and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Logan, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
This is a very personal question for me and a huge reason that Mrs. Ferree Photography exists. For a long time, I lived a performance-based lifestyle that defined success based on my GPA, the number of hours I worked (the more the better, right? Wrong!), and if I was doing more than the person next to me. I ran myself into the ground and for what? For a few compliments? In 2021, God radically changed my heart posture and perspective on life to look more like what He designed us for. So now, success to me is loving my husband to the best of my abilities every single day because I have the energy to do so, it is reaching out to friends in need and walking through the highs and lows together, it is loving my clients well and helping them see how beautiful they truly are, it is having the bandwidth to prioritize my health and well-being, and most of all success to me means being freed from the chains of performance and comparison.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a portrait photographer for individuals, couples, families, friends, and pets serving Fort Collins, CO and beyond! I am entering the space of micro-wedding photography as an assistant photographer with the dream of specializing in this space as a lead photographer! I wholeheartedly aim to love those that are placed in front of me and capture photos along the way. When I think about my business, I am most excited for the people that my camera will connect me with! I love people. I especially love loving people and am so grateful for a passion that connects me with people!

The last 7-8 years of my life looked very different than my life does today. I earned my Bachelors in Animal Sciences from Texas A&M University and am wrapping up my Masters in Animal Sciences at Colorado State University. I have a unique passion for dairy calves that I hope to intertwine with my passion for photography one day!

An important piece of my story that got me where I am today is the burnout I experienced during graduate school from a lack of setting boundaries for myself. Going through burnout was not easy and I want to encourage anyone going through burnout, that it can and does get better. I have always been an over achiever and it took me months to realize that I wasn’t a bad student… I was officially burnt out. I was fortunate to have a very supportive circle of mentors and friends throughout this time. I came across a quote that said ‘schedule your priorities instead of just prioritizing your schedule’ and this really stuck with me. I had to push my personal reset button and decided to commit to making my life more meaningful by being more intentional with my time.

I am learning so many new lessons every single day as a newlywed and new business owner, but the most important lesson I have learned is that God will not let you miss out on what He has for you. No matter how many times you linger, hesitate, or pursue down the wrong path, don’t be discouraged and hang in there because God will blow your mind with what He has in store for your life. If others take anything away from my story, I hope it is to slow down, be more present in each moment, practice intentionality every day, and be bold to make changes in your life that allow you to prioritize your values. I hope others see my love for life, others, and Jesus through my business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many amazing places around Fort Collins, CO that I would take my guests and that I recommend to anyone!

For the smoothest and most perfect lavender latte you have ever had I would take them to Harbinger Coffee, for a more unique iced latte known as the ube latte we would go to Lima Coffee, and for another super smooth hot or iced latte we would go to Bindle Coffee! As a coffee lover, Fort Collins is a great place to live and work.

I recently discovered the most flavorful avocado toast in the world at the Butterfly Café – I love it so much I had it 4 times in one week when my aunt was visiting! For a full breakfast or brunch, I would take my guests to the Original Pancake House where the pancakes are fluffy and the servings are huge! Or, I would take them to the historic Silver Grill Café for a famous cinnamon roll and a cup of coffee in a diner mug. If we were looking for a snack, we would head over to the Welsh Rabbit Cheese Shop where you can taste a variety of cheeses and even have a custom charcuterie board made with your favorites! Sometimes when I am having a rough day, I stop in the Welsh Rabbit to try a new cheese for a little pick me up!

For lunch, my absolute favorite location is the Mishawaka Amphitheater! There is nothing more peaceful than sitting on the patio listening to the Poudre River flow while enjoying my favorite fries around! Two of my favorite lunch or dinner spots in Old Town Fort Collins are Penrose and Ginger and Baker. My husband and I recently discovered that Penrose has the best nachos that are plenty for the table to share! Pro tip: Penrose also has super yummy brunch! Ginger and Baker is a staple in Old Town. I love walking through their gift shop, sipping on my cinnamon-vanilla latte, and checking out their pies in the bakery! Ginger and Baker has a meal for anytime of the day, but my favorite is their savory chicken pot pie.

For dessert, we could enjoy freshly baked pie right there from Ginger and Baker or head over to Josh & John’s in the Jessup Farm area for the creamiest ice cream. If our guests enjoy wine, we would definitely take them to Blendings at The Hillside Vineyard, or their new location in The Exchange, to enjoy one of their unique wine slushies – my recommendation is a swirl of the aronia sangria and peach bellini. For cocktails, we would most definitely go to The Reserve by Old Elk Distillery! I recommend their salted caramel espresso martini.

In addition to the amazing food in Fort Collins, a trip would not be complete without paddle boarding at Horsetooth Reservoir through Little Big’s Lakeside Market or at least putting your feet in the water along the Poudre River at one of the picnic areas! The weather is so beautiful in Fort Collins, so we always make it a point to spend as much time as possible outside with our guests in the crisp Colorado air.

Lastly, if you need lodging, I suggest checking out The Edwards House on Mountain Ave! My in-laws have been raving about their stay and the kindness of the owner for the last 7 months. It is the most adorable place.

I wish I could list every single amazing business, but no matter what you do when you visit Fort Collins you will not be disappointed! Thank you to all the hard working people that make these businesses what they are.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I truly have had the most amazing support group. First and foremost, I give all the glory to God for freeing me from the worldly expectations and pressures I had put myself under and for renewing my soul and my joy! In December of 2021, I married the most supportive man that there is. I absolutely would not be where I am without my husband’s support. Dan is truly the man. From moving 1,000+ miles away from home for me to attend graduate school to carrying my step stool at my first couples photo session, Dan always encourages me in my endeavors and I know he always will!

My circle is so rich. I am encouraged every day by my family and my friends! Whether it is my mom letting me do a photo session of her when I visit to build my portfolio, my aunt being my first google review, my nanny’s comments on Facebook, my Ma’s likes on Instagram, my dad’s enthusiastic encouragement, my papa’s short but loving texts, my uncle’s sincere appreciation of all of my work, or my sister’s shared passion for my business, I am so blessed with a family that chases my dreams with me! Beyond my family, my best friend from my home state of Texas, Julie, has supported me in so many seasons of life over the last 5 years and is a huge reason I am the woman I am today. From bonding over breakups in college to being my Maid of Honor in my windy winter wedding in Estes Park, CO she has always been by my side! In Colorado, I have found the most amazing community here in Fort Collins through the people that make up City Light Fort Collins Church! My dear friend Tyler of Tyler Rebekah Wright Photography is here every single day praying for me, listening to my five minute audio messages, and pouring her heart and soul into cheering me on as both a friend and photography mentor. I am so honored to know her and learn from her as a fellow sister in Christ and photographer. I am especially thankful for our sweet friends Brandi + Bryan and Tauren + Keaton for their friendship and for being two of my first couples photo sessions! I am so thankful for friends that have overwhelmingly supported me, believed in me, and shared their time with me as a friend and new business owner.
