We had the good fortune of connecting with Adley Myers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adley, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I didn’t know what kind of a photographer i wanted to be when I got my Photography Degree. I just knew I liked the industry and wanted to work in it, in one way or another. When I became a mother I realized starting my own portrait photography business would enable me to have a flexible schedule. Being able to stay in the industry to keep my skills sharp enough to stay up on the trends and also raise my children was the perfect choice for me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy or fast. It was a slow road of constant doubt and self criticism. I’m proud of myself for still being here and doing it everyday. I still have career goals to acheive and strength and determination to get there. What I want people to know about portrait photographers is how much goes on behind the scenes, before and after the photoshoot itself. There’s a lot of thought, planning, researching, scouting beforehand and culling, editing, finishing on the backend. From shoot to shoot there’s a lot of little things happening as well. Being a portrait photographer is so much more than purchasing equipment and taking pictures. It’s SO much more. I’m passionate about what I do and care about doing it well. It’s important to me to be amongst the top performers in my industry and when you hire me you can count on quality work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the Fort Collins area! For a fun adventure Horsetooth Reservoir and Lory State Park. You can hike, bike, swim, boat and fish. Or take pictures of course! Old Town Fort Collins is the heart of the city. They have an excellent art and culture scene. Cute shopping boutiques and excellent food. The atmosphere there is always positive vibes and strolling around will put you in a good mood. They are also very family friendly which is always important for me. Estes Park is not far away either and you can’t go wrong exploring Rocky Mountain National Park. All the towns in Northern Colorado have something for everyone.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Wes, has been a big part in my continued success in the photography industry. Together we made the decision for me to open my portrait photography business so that I would also have time to be with our children. Without his suppport that wouldn’t have been an option for me. I would also like to shoutout to the Women Networking in Photography Colorado Photographers facebook group. These women and fellow photographers are always there to answer questions and lift you up. Without this positive community of women my job would be a lot harder.
