Meet Cameron Morton | PGA Golf Professional

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Morton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cameron, what is the most important factor behind your success?
This is a very important question for me which I specifically try to answer on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis. It determines everything and is directly aligned with the success of the small business/Club I run. Being able to differentiate between causal and corollary relationships is paramount so we can identify what is working and what was purely chalked up to chance.
For me simply doing that analysis and using a little foresight to be able to track specific metrics that will help me identify what works and why is the most important thing. We all are very limited on time so being as efficient as possible with what I do have makes a world of difference. I have a solid team of people who support what we are trying to do and as long as I can put them in places to be successful everything goes well. I have to identify what they are good at and then develop plans to take advantage of that while encouraging growth in areas they are deficient which is basically how I try to do my job.
Finding the people who possess specific traits I have identified as non-negotiable is paramount to my hiring process and to the success of the operation. That is the hard part. After that just paying attention to details and knowing what defines success for plans we set will take care of the rest.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has always been a combination of the road less traveled and serendipity. I have worked so many different jobs in my life, many that I would never want to do again, but led to growth and a great work ethic highlighting what is really important in the work you do. I am lucky enough to thoroughly enjoy what I do (most days), which was not always that case. I think this taught me a lot about the importance of perseverance which is absolutely necessary to be successful with anything. It never all goes according to plan and many times you have to do things you don’t want to do to get where you want to go. Almost all of my success can be attributed to effort and caring.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them dowtown Denver for some good food and a baseball game if it was summer time or to an Avs game in the winter. Guard and Grace or Capitol Grille for a steak dinner is always a good choice then probably visit the comedy works. We would play golf at Ravenna Country Club if we were lucky enough to get on and catch a show at Red Rocks that evening while we were up that way. We would definitely explore a little gambling in Central City and drive the back way down through Lyons to stop at Oskar Blues Brewery. I think we would also have to visit Avery Brewing in Boulder and Frolic in Broomfield. Finishing off the week we may play golf at The Ranch Country Club, visit two fun local bars 30/70 and Park Center lounge which are directly across the street for some pool and Karaoke.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ed _Oldham (former boss), Mom and Dad, Fiance Courtney Wolfe, Mitch Galnick (current boss), all the jobs that I did growing up which taught me the importance of work ethic!
