Meet Riley Bushman | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Riley Bushman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Riley, what makes you happy? Why?
Photography has been a source of happiness for me ever since I first picked up a camera. I love everything about the process from searching for a subject to editing the fine details of the image on my laptop. I feel that photography pushes one outside their comfort zone and exposes them to the raw beauty of the world around them. I found a great source of happiness exploring the unknown and documenting it through my camera lens.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Light is the core of all photography. I have always found it incredibly fascinating how a camera can take in a certain amount of light and show the human eye the world in such unique ways. My process includes taking a scene and manipulating it with my camera and my laptop to offer the world an image that could never have seen with their naked eye. I love working with low light images particularly, but I have a similar process for every photo I take, Everything I do with my camera is self-taught. Getting to the point I am now was not easy, but I enjoyed every second of it. As I continue to improve, I still find myself loving the process. I’ve learned many lessons along the way, but the one I want to share with the world is that if you don’t enjoy the slow process of getting better at something, don’t waste your time on it. Move on until to find something that you love doing no matter how good you are at it. Skill comes over time, and it is an ever-growing thing. Take a risk. When you find something you really love doing, stick to it like your life depends on it. If it makes you happy then its worth it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As much as I love the city of Denver, make sure you get out of the city and explore this beautiful state. One of my favorite images was taken at Lily lake near Estes Park. It’s a very peaceful area with a few fun little hikes. I’ve found a great deal of peace walking around that area watching the sun rise and fall.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother was probably the one who raised me to have a more creative mind. She has always been my biggest supporter of my work and it is her I have to thank for my artistic approach to life.
