Meet Matthew Hurley | Endurance coach and business owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Hurley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matthew, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I like the idea of being a “time” billionaire. If you’re ~30 you have ~ two billion seconds left if you’re lucky. That and trying recognize what i’ll wish i did more of when I was younger, and the had time. With all of our decisions we’re saying no to something else, even unconsciously. I’ve set up my life to minimize those “regrets” or fall into the trap of being busy. With that in mind, my risk tolerance has gone up. I also think experiencing failure early in my life was important. I realized nothing was final and that’s helped me take risks i wouldn’t have otherwise, like quitting stable jobs.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m most proud that I get to help others achieve their goals. I also get to watch those goals change as these athletes grow. I work with an incredibly diverse group of people. Executives who manage work, family and sport. Professionals who do this as their job, athletes with great family focus, and developing elite athletes trying to get to the next level. Because i’ve had the opportunity to work with such a wide range of athletes I’m able to balance their lives with the context of what else is on their plate. We always want to do more, and my job is mostly holding people back and allowing them to reach their potential in all areas of their lives. I don’t view sport as the key, but instead part of what they do. Most of my athletes have families, jobs, and i try to build a relationship where i can have these conversations about balance, which actually helps athletic performance in the long run
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ride up left hand canyon to ward. Scott carpenter 50m pool for swims. Eldorado Canyon for some hiking and running. You can’t walk out your door in Boulder without finding some great spots, whether mesa trail or runs from Thompson park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Cliched, but of course my parents. Professionally Matt Dixon of PurplePatch fitness who took a chance on me and gave me my start in this industry. I’ve been incredible fortunate to have so many mentors and people who supported me in my life.
