We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Dorninger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my health care journey as a hospice volunteer and as in EMT riding with the ambulance. I appreciated palliative care and dying with dignity and the power of Emergency medicine. Nevertheless, the job of the ER is to make sure you don’t die today and then discharge the patient back to their unresolved chronic illness.

I saw the need for helping people and patients find the true underlying causes of their illness so we could develop treatment plans that could restore health rather than mange symptoms.

This is Roots and Branches Integrative Health Care.

We are moving health care from “What you Have” to “Why You Have it”. If you identify the sincere underlying causes of illness, you can formulate treatment plans that solve and resolve health care issues and restore a reasonable quality of life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a clinic dedicated to changing healthcare from “What you have” to Why you have it”. In our clinic, anxiety, migraines, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, fibromyalgia, insomnia, arthritis, heart disease, etc. are not diagnoses, but symptoms being talked about as a diagnosis.

At Roots and Branches Integrative health care, WHY you have a migraine or other symptom is the actual diagnosis. When learning about something like headaches, we have over 100 reasons (low Vitamin D, Sleep Apnea, Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome Secondary to Water Damaged Buildings, low blood sugar, inflammation driving insulin insensitivity, drug reactions, inflammatory food reactions, tooth abscess, etc.) for the underlying cause of headaches. At Roots and Branches Integrative Health Care, we are dedicated to being relentless thorough and leave no stone unturned.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love doing a quick 30-60 minute hike at Settler’s park in Boulder. If time or bravado allows, I like to do some Wim Hof Breathing and do a cold plunge in the Boulder creek at Eben G Fein park.

If looking for a great place to have an upscale cocktail and great view, I love the balcony patio and bar at Corrida. The food is amazing, but upscale…..chilling with a friend and having a drink on the patio is perfect.

Jax Fish house is the best land-locked seafood in town.

You can never go wrong with hiking the flatirons or a paddle board at the Boulder Reservoir.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The spirit of our clinic developed from my Austrian immigrant father’s psychotic work ethic and need to “do things right the first time” and my mother’s service driven heart whose love language and joy was in helping others.

It takes massive infrastructure (healthy, capable staff, diagnostics, health care community relationships, mentorships, team meetings) to run a clinic that addresses chronic, unresolved mystery illness.

It also takes a lot of mentorship and support. I am indebted to all the doctors before me who brought forth and earnest pursuit of the underlying causes of illness. John Bastyr ND, Joseph Pizzorno, ND, Dr. Bill Mitchell ND, Alan Gaby MD, Tori Hudson ND, Letitia Dick-Kronenberg, ND, Jared Zeff, ND, Patrick Donavan ND, Lise Alschuler ND, Dirk Powell, ND, Datis Kharazian DC, Ritchie Shoemaker MD, Scott McMahon MD and Bill Blanchet MD are a limited list of the heroes that have guided and continue to guide my pursuit of the multi-factorial underlying causes.

I am graced by the profound experience of mentorship….all I brought is an earnest desire to serve and solve problems for suffering humans….what I was met with was a lifetime of friendship, learning, support, colleagueship, and family of healers dedicated graduating patients back to a reasonable quality of life.
