Meet MICHAEL AMINOV | OWNER/MASTER BARBER

We had the good fortune of connecting with MICHAEL AMINOV and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MICHAEL, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
The idea and motivation to open Men’s Escape Barbershop came from a seed planted in my deepest thoughts when I was a child. It all started when my family fled from the USSR to come to America in the hopes of starting a new life. My father, the person who made me the man I am today, started his own barbershop in Queens, New York, and I could honestly say I pretty much was raised in that shop.
From sweeping floors and folding towels at age five to actually doing my first few haircuts at age 12, the barbershop was basically my home away from home. You would see the same happy people always thrilled to see you in a relaxing environment with the music playing and TVs running,— it was where a man could go to be a man.
Of course, growing up in such an environment, I thought this was the standard for barbershops. Even when I moved from New York to Arizona and worked for my uncle Lenny’s shop, he had the same vision of an old-school men’s barbershop. But when I moved to Colorado just last year, all I could find were corporate-controlled franchise barber shops, salons, and so-called “barbershops for men.” In reality, these places were just filled with [people] getting their hair colored.
Even though barbering is in my blood, for me, it’s more of a passion to connect with people and provide the best service I can. Oh, and you’ll be walking around with the best cut in town. That’s why I came up with the idea of Men’s Escape Barbershop — an old-school barbershop [mostly] for men with a modern twist, amazing services, and genuine barbers that want to make you feel and look good…just like the good ol’ days.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m mostly proud about how amazing the shop looks and feels. Also excited that the first one started in Colorado Blvd, because I value the culture and people of the community and I want to provide them an unmatched service that a city this large is lacking. I got to where I am with the help of my amazing wife who made all this happen with all her efforts and support I have extensive experience in managing and operating a barbershop. This is my first owned barbershop, but I feel as tho it will be fairly easy
The lessons I have learned is that there is an incredible amount of patients needed, and I had to overcome my stubbornness, because not everything goes according to plan.
My story is I’ve been cutting hair since 12 and haven’t stopped since my brand is that barbering is in my blood, for me, it’s more of a passion to connect with people and provide the best service I can, you’ll be walking around with the best cut in town. This is why I came up with the idea of Men’s Escape Barbershop — an old-school barbershop for men with a modern twist, amazing services, and genuine barbers that want to make you feel good and look good just like the good old days.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to a comedy show. For somewhere to eat definitely NOBU-. Nobu in Cherry Creek is the best restaurant i have been too. I would also take them to Glenwood Hot Springs. That is a natural hot water springs that is so good for your health.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big shout out to my wife Eliza. She has helped me tremendously building this shop. Starting with the way it looks all the way to building the brand of who we are.
