We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote is ” what would you do if you weren’t afraid to”. For me it means to take a look outside of your fears and the negative” what if”. You can what if this and what if that all day long and talk yourself out of something amazing you could do or become. I like that it can remind you not to let fear control your decisions. The growth you go through as a person when you push through your comfort zone and get uncomfortable is what it takes to be creative or step into being an entrepreneur. I moved Colorado 16 years ago on a whim and started putting myself out there and hoping people would like what I created. I ended up co owning two business. One an art gallery and the other a small manufacturing company. Both businesses allowed me to use my photography and pushed me to be better at it. Being a creative entrepreneur, you never stop learning new things about yourself or in whatever your talent is. So, ask yourself what would you do if you weren’t afraid to? What if it turned out even better than you imagined?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of myself and the hard work and dedication it takes to keep being an artist/creative when things can seem to work agents you at times. I am also very excited about a new business endeavor I stumbled into. I got to where I am today by the support of family and friends and a whole community of people in Salida CO. It’s had ups and downs and seemed easy at times and a major pain at other times. You overcome challenges by getting things done that need to be done and pushing through. I think the lessons I’ve learned are more about myself that anything. To trust my instances and I have learned the value of myself and value others that support you and push you to be better. I love what I do and hope it brings a smile and some happiness to others. Even if it’s just a beautiful landscape photo.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my best friend to eat at a restaurant on the Arkansas River in downtown Salida. All the food places are good, but you have to experience the river dining. You get to watch rafts come down the river, kayaks, fisherman, kids swimming and playing. Also, the hot springs in the area they are all fun to visit and take a soak. If they want to go hiking, there are some beautiful places to go up on Marshall Pass especially in the fall that are very easy to get to .

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My two amazing daughters Madison & Melody that are along for the ride with support and love no matter where life takes us.
