Meet Brenna Cavanaugh | Wedding & Event Florist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenna Cavanaugh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brenna, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
That we don’t just play with pretty flowers. While yes, we do get to design with the most delicate and beautiful blooms, we also always have a tool belt full of clippers, zip ties, gloves and Band aids. Event floristry is very labor intensive, from washing 50-100 buckets every week, getting up on 15′ ladders hands full of up in greenery and zip ties, early morning set up, late night breakdowns, and endless cuts and scraps on the hands. But don’t get me wrong, it’s always worth it for the outcome!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a florist, primarily focusing on weddings and events. I love getting to design something so beautiful, unique and special for a couples most memorable day.
I went to school for Visual Communications and design, I have always been a designer and creator, but when I found floristry – I knew this was all I wanted to do.
It was not easy, it took many years and many career changes and moves to put me where I am today. It also took an incredible amount of support from my family, friends and community to give me the space and encouragement to create my own business.
I have learned the importance of treating and taking care of your employees. They are what make my business and dream possible, they are like family and my biggest supporters. Your business is only as successful as the team that’s with you.
I want the world to know how deeply I cherish my work. How much I care for each client and each flower that goes in to every arrangement. How everything is carefully curated and the amount of love and nurture I put into my designs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would start at my favorite coffee shop – Maudes. Then we would go for a beautiful spring hike where all the lupine and wildflowers were blooming.
I would pack up the van and a picnic with wine and head up to Stanley for a day at Red Fish Lake.
We would then have dinner at The Sawtooth Hotel, with the most amazing goat cheese + date appetizers.
Then an evening sunset soak in the hot springs.
Sleep out under the stars at a secret camp spot and wake up to the sunrise over the Sawtooth Mountains.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Mother.
She raised me in the garden. She taught me the labor of love in nature, that it’s okay to get your hands dirty, to always leave some for the bees, and to literally stop and smell the roses.
