We had the good fortune of connecting with Evan Reynolds and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Evan, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success has been following my gut and staying true to my roots. I don’t post what I think others might enjoy. I create content that I find entertaining and when it does well it makes me feel great and when it doesn’t, oh well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve dabbled in various professional endeavors and running a meme account has by far been the longest lasting and most fun. I have yet to monetize my account which gives me immense freedom in creativity and has not yet presented serious challenges. Whenever @monkeyclimbingmemes causes any amount of stress, I stop and come back later. I have climbed the vast majority of my life and learned that I have shared experiences with both newbies and veteran climbers.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting Boulder for a week long trip, we wouldn’t spend much time in the city. Assuming he were to visit in the winter/spring, we would pack up a truck and spend a week powder chasing across the state. If not in the winter, Boulder Canyon is an incredible destination for climbing. I have climbed some of my most difficult routes in Boulder Canyon and I have also taken friends their for their first time outdoors. There are plenty of restaurants in Boulder but the best has to be Snarfburger, this little shack next to CU with $6 burgers.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate the entirety of my success to everyone who has ever liked any of my posts. I can’t begin to explain how much it means to see something I created as a joke get a thousand likes on instagram. Through instagram and connecting with the climbing community, I have learned so much and I’m honored that I’ve gotten to hear your stories to become a better person. Thank you to everyone who enjoy my random, nonsense, climbing humor. Also, thank you to my friends in high school who got so sick of me showing them my climbing memes that they told me to make an instagram account and go post them there.
