Meet Ryan & Emily Long | Co-Owners of The Way We Hunt

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan & Emily Long and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan & Emily, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We began filming our hunts several years ago just for us so we could always remember the adventures we’ve been on. We learned how to hunt, process, and cook what we took. Ryan then taught himself how to edit videos and began putting them on YouTube. Many of our friends and family were always commenting about how we should start our own TV show or asking how we were able to go on these trips. So Ryan thought we should start our own YouTube show for everyone to enjoy. Emily took a bit of persuading but finally agreed. 🙂

When we were trying to decide on a name for the business, We came up with the name after telling our friends and family, “it’s just the way we hunt”. It has bloomed into not just a YouTube show, but we are branching out into long-range shooting instruction and field-to-table events.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ryan began his adult life in the Infantry in the Marine Corps. Ryan is a decorated combat veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart with two tours overseas in the military and was also a civilian contractor for the U.S. State Department. Ryan worked for the United States Shooting Academy in Tulsa, OK, and is a proficient instructor in all things firearms. Both Ryan and Emily are current Law Enforcement Officers at their day jobs.

We also started a non-profit 501c(3) for active duty military, veterans, and first responders called True Warrior Initiative. We these warriors on hunts, fishing trips, and other outdoor adventures as our way to give back.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Right now, probably our favorite place to go is a lease we have near our home. The property is abundant in whitetail deer, turkey, wild pigs, predators, ponds, and a few migratory birds. We love to grill anything that we’ve harvested ourselves. Tulsa and Oklahoma City are not far and have so many things to see and do. We also frequent Texas to hunt with our friends. We enjoy hunting hogs, predators, deer, and turkey when we visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that have helped us along the way and encouraged us to start this adventure, we could not possibly name all of you. But we would like to give a special shoutout to 2Hats Ranch in Michigan, Jr. Walker in Texas, and all of our friends and family in Florida, Michigan, Missouri, Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Colorado that have supported us in this endeavor!
