We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Jeffrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, how does your business help the community?
We are a grassroots organization that works to promote and support climate action in our local community. In the almost 4 years we’ve been working on this issue I feel that we’ve increased both the community’s awareness of the need for action and helped accelerate governmental commitment and action to reduce our emissions and begin developing more sustainable and resilient systems.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
During my working life I was a teacher and then a Director/CEO of a diversity/ outdoor education program. The skills developed in both those careers have served me well as a leader in our climate efforts. Having a stronger idea of how different people learn and absorb information has been useful in working with all of our community partners and volunteers when taking on this stressful and important issue. Having the experience of creating and developing the diversity program helped build my ability to see what might be and take the risks needed to work our way there. I started teaching because I loved working with children and now I see that I really like working with people and helping individuals and groups approach this dire existential threat.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the high desert mountains of Idaho so we always enjoy sharing that with our visitors. If it’s summer we have such great hiking and biking trails to visit and a few great alpine lakes that are a must. There are some regular food spots we always hit; Smiley Creek Cafe for some huckleberry shakes and local cafes. Usually though, the best food is what we pack and take on a hike. In the winter, it’s all about skiing and taking the gondola up to the Roundhouse for a meal overlooking Baldy Mountain.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As a grassroots organization, we depend on every single volunteer, official, business and non-profit who works on climate action. I’d love to give a shoutout to the many people who work with us and continue to introduce us to new ideas and help lead us to the next step and the next step and the next. Almost every meeting and encounter with each of them inspires and reestablishes my own commitment and understanding.
