Meet Lindsey Laurain | Founder, ezpz

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Laurain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Back in 2014, my husband and I had three boys under the age of three, and we were fed up with the messiness and cleanup time dedicated to each meal. I scoured the marketplace to find a plate that the boys couldn’t tip or toss, and couldn’t find a solution. So, I decided to make it myself. That is how the Happy Mat (the original all-in-one placemat + plate that suctions to the table) came to be!
After successfully launching the Happy Mat on Kickstarter, I wanted to address the lack of innovation and safety standards in the juvenile feeding space. I believed babies and toddlers (+ parents) deserved better. With that, ezpz’s focus expanded to not only making mealtime less about mess, but also about helping babies, toddlers and school-aged children meet key mealtime milestones safely and successfully. With the help of ezpz’s Feeding Specialist, Dawn Winkelmann, ezpz launched products that are thoughtfully designed, rigorously tested and tailored to a specific feeding developmental stage / age group. These products include a range of mat-based products as well as cups and utensils.
ezpz has grown into a worldwide brand and our products can be found in over 1500 US Retailers (including buybuyBaby, Nordstrom, Target and Crate&kids) and over 45 countries.

What should our readers know about your business?
At ezpz we strive to make safe, innovative, developmentally appropriate feeding products for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
We understand the challenges parents face from first bites to feeding independence, and we want to provide reliable tools that assist with that journey.
All of ezpz’s products are 3rd party quality tested and made from top-of-the-line materials, including nylon and silicone that are free from BPA, BPS, latex, lead and phthalates. ezpz products are designed by a Pediatric Feeding Specialist (and tested by moms) to set little ones up for safety and success as they practice <and achieve> mealtime milestones.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Colorado is the best and has so much to offer. We live in the burbs now and I don’t get out as often as I’d like, but here is what I would recommend.
Washington Park is my favorite park near Denver. It’s perfect for a low-key day of strolling, biking, walking pets or having a picnic. Plus, both sides of the park have great shops and restaurants. My favorite restaurant, Sushi Den, is located on the west side of the park. I highly recommend it!
Union Station (in Denver) is a great spot to grab a bite, get a delicious dessert, or just people watch and enjoy the beautiful architecture. You can drive or take the light rail, which makes the commute ezpz.
We love the mountain towns (e.g., Beaver Creek, Vail and Copper Mountain) in both the summer and winter. In the summer, the Westin in Beaver Creek has a great pool and spa. Also, Breckenridge has a park called Epic Discovery that turns the ski slopes into summer activities including their Gold Run Coaster, alpine slides and mountain biking.
Lastly, if you’re a hiker, I recommend Boulder (Chautauqua Park or Sanitas Trail) and Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs – it is breathtaking!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My team is – full stop – the most hard-working, smart and selfless group of ladies in the biz. Every member of my team wears no less than 10 hats and, oftentimes, they have had to learn (and become experts) on jobs they have never done before. Nothing would be possible without the incredible team.
I can’t help but mention that ezpz is woman-owned and women-run, and two of the members on my team are childhood friends. We all are incredibly close and supportive of one another. Perhaps most importantly, we really enjoy our time off together (i.e., wine, laughter and documentaries).
Finally, I have to recognize my husband, Brad. Brad has been by my side through this wild – and oftentimes brutal – journey of entrepreneurship and running a small business. He picks me up when I am down and is an incredible dad to our three boys.
