We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jake, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to have personal and financial freedom, make my own hours.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My current focus is in black and grey fine line detail floral work. I love to work with lady faces, animals, skulls, and bugs as well. It took me about 10 years to figure out my style and refine it to the place it is now. I’m still learning and pushing my art and hope to always evolve. It wasn’t an easy journey but I’m thankful to have dedicated endless hours and days in walk-in shops over the years working on my art and building clientele that I now have the ability to be in a private studio space. I’ve learned that working on art or styles of art that gives you excitement and passion is most important and more valuable than anything. I’m always evolving, and I’m currently doing black and grey but I may start doing color again soon..
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would ride motorcycles around the poudre, and go to one of the many skateparks in town. We would go out on the water at horsetooth, kayaking or boating. Maybe go to a red rocks show, or visit one of the many art installations denver has to offer. Depending on the time of the year, potentially snowboarding or some Mountain activity.
I would eat at old elk, persimmon, or the blind pig or cafe vino
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife (also a cosmetic tattooer, and my business partner) is my biggest supporter, and I’m thankful for her love and support every day.
Artistically, my best friend DanScottForreal gave me all the knowledge and tools I needed to get into and succeed in this industry. I’m Forever grateful for him passing the torch and having my back throughout the journey.
