We had the good fortune of connecting with Garrett Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Garrett, where are you from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Being from southwest Colorado, my background and upbringing has had a large impact on who I am and the music that I create. I have spent all but four years of my life living on and working my family’s ranch. This I believe has contributed to my love of outlaw country and rockabilly music, as well as my resilience and work ethic. In addition, Colorado has fueled my love of mountains and skiing which are a recurring theme in many of our original songs. The time I have spent away from ranching was following another passion of mine, surfing. These extreme sport addictions are apparent in many of our songs, and have contributed to other musical influences that include rock, grunge, and surf rock!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My band the Garrett Young Collective is an alternative rock, outlaw country, rockabilly, and surf rock group. We are high energy and love showcasing each member in our performances. What I believe sets us apart the most is our unique sound and large array of musical influences. The path to where we are today hasn’t always been easy being an independent band, but working hard and taking charge has been crucial to overcoming many of those challenges. I want the world to know how passionate we are about our music, our convictions, and our extreme sport addictions that the four of us share!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My idea of the best time ever is a day spent in the mountains! Between the resorts and endless backcountry terrain, it would not be difficult to fill a week with adventures. Perfection would be a truck bed camper, eggs and coffee for breakfast, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch and dinner and of course Euphoria from Ska Brewing in between. It may not be glamorous, but it’s the dream!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Above all else, I have to dedicate my success to the unwavering support of my family. From a young age to now, they have backed me and encouraged me more than I could have even asked for. They are my biggest fans, and now that includes my wife and son! I am so lucky to have such a large support group. An honorable mention is my sister who not only has always supported me, but has been in the band and someone to co-create with for many years.
