Meet Bernadette Henry | Jump rope Instructor and Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bernadette Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bernadette, What is the most important factor behind your success / the success of your brand?
I believe that the most important factor behind my success is my authenticity. I am always honest and transparent with my audience, and I show the ups and downs of my journey. I believe that people can relate to my authenticity, and they appreciate that I am not afraid to be myself.
I have also been consistent in my message. I have always been passionate about jump rope, and I have always been clear about the benefits of jump rope. I believe that consistency is key to success, and I am proud to say that I have been consistent in my message for many years.
Finally, I have created my own lane and stayed in it. I have not tried to be like anyone else, and I have not tried to follow the trends. I have created my own path, and I am proud to walk it.
I believe that these factors have contributed to my success. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story, and I hope that it inspires others to be authentic, consistent, and true to themselves.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
As a case manager for over 20 years, I have primarily worked with clients who have stable housing but face challenges related to mental health, medical issues, or other circumstances. This role has allowed me to grow significantly, both professionally and personally, since I started. It has helped me become more observant, quick-thinking, and adept at making well-informed decisions.
Through my work as a case manager, as well as my involvement in teaching jump rope and life coaching, I have been committed to helping people see the best in themselves and realize their potential. Along the way, I have faced challenges such as employing the wrong approach or working in environments that did not foster my professional growth. Despite these obstacles, I have learned valuable lessons, including the importance of not judging others, recognizing that everyone has different tolerance levels for certain situations, and avoiding making light of anyone’s trauma, no matter how small it may seem.
My passion for helping others led me to return to school to acquire the necessary skills to better apply theory to practice in my work. I want the world to know that my brand and story are centered around empowering others to overcome their challenges and achieve their goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting the area for a week-long trip, I’d create an itinerary filled with fun, excitement, and cultural experiences. Here’s a suggested plan:
1. Explore Harlem: As a historically significant location for African Americans, Harlem offers a wealth of cultural experiences. We’d visit iconic spots like the Apollo Theater, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and take a stroll along 125th Street.
2. Savor the food: Both Harlem and Brooklyn are known for their fantastic culinary scenes. We’d try out a variety of local restaurants and eateries, sampling diverse cuisines such as soul food, Caribbean, and Afro-fusion dishes.
3. Participate in a 5k race: To keep things active and exciting, we’d sign up for a local 5k race, allowing us to explore the city while getting some exercise.
4. Staten Island Ferry ride: A trip on the Staten Island Ferry offers stunning views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Manhattan skyline. This relaxing journey would be a perfect way to unwind and appreciate the city’s beauty.
5. Attend the Freedom Party: Known for its old-school music and lively atmosphere, the Freedom Party is an excellent venue for dancing and having a great time. We’d spend an evening there, dancing to our favorite tunes and mingling with other partygoers.
6. Discover hidden gems: We’d also explore lesser-known attractions, such as the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the High Line, or quirky neighborhoods like DUMBO and Williamsburg.
7. Visit renowned landmarks: Of course, no trip to the area would be complete without visiting famous landmarks like Times Square, Central Park, and the Empire State Building.
Throughout the week, we’d experience a perfect blend of history, culture, food, and entertainment, ensuring that my best friend would leave with unforgettable memories of their visit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to wholeheartedly dedicate my shoutout to my incredible sister, Frances Myers. She possesses remarkable intelligence and level-headedness, and has been a constant presence throughout my life journey. Frances has been not only a confidant and friend, but also a reliable source of support when I need a listening ear for brainstorming or discussing ideas. Her unwavering encouragement has truly been a game changer in my life, and she undoubtedly deserves credit and recognition for her role in my story.
