We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon John Lockhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon John, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and brand is understanding the desires of our clients. Tailoring a business that offers high quality services, top notch customer service, and an appealing ambiance has been the recipe for success. Also, taking the time to truly connect and listen to our clients and their needs has allowed us to form impactful relationships that have contributed tremendously to the shop’s success.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We differentiate ourselves from other barber businesses by offering a classic barber experience. Few shops these days maintain the classic ambiance and services of the traditional barber shop. When you step in the door at Lockhart & Co. you’re taking a step back in time. You’ll be greeted with the nostalgic aroma of aftershave and the sound of classic music and community banter amongst friends. From the atmosphere of the shop to the services offered, we are a modern day classic barber shop through and through.

This is the sixth barber business I’ve opened, so I wouldn’t say the process was terribly difficult due to my experience, but starting a business is never easy either. Some of the challenges I had to overcome included learning Colorado regulations, Denver permits, and finding quality barbers to fill the chairs.

I am always trying to learn and grow and take lessons from experiences, but one lesson worth highlighting from this experience and ones of the past is this: Great success comes from working with others to achieve a common goal. Without the help of others there would be no success.

Lockhart’s History:

Lockhart & Co. was founded December 6th, 2022 by Brandon Lockhart, who received his barber and barber instructing education from Illinois Quad-City Barber & Hairstyling College in Moline, Illinois. Lockhart became the driving force in the restoration of traditional barbers in Central Illinois by founding Lockhart’s Barber College—the premier barber college in downstate Illinois—and a chain of award-winning barber shops before relocating to Colorado. During his time in Central Illinois Lockhart was awarded Business Expansion of the Year and Micro Business of the Year from Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce, and #1 Barber Shop and Trade School several years consecutively from Herald & Review Readers’ Choice Awards.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week long trip would take some extensive planning, but here is how we could spend a day:

I would start the day by taking them to 2914 Coffee for an amazing cup of coffee. Next, we would stop by Lockhart & Co. Barbers for a top notch haircut and shave, followed by lunch down at Briar Common. After lunch we would make our way to some of my favorite local pubs and breweries, including Jefferson Park Pub, and Little Machine Brewing. For dinner we would stop by Watercourse Foods for an amazing meal! After that, we are headed to the mountains in Boulder for a relaxing hike and to watch the sun set.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout out to all of our amazing clients and the barbers that cut hair behind the chairs. Without these two groups of people we would not experience the success we have! I am extremely appreciative and feel so fortunate to have loyal clients and quality barbers on the Lockhart & Co. team! I also want to thank my wife for her support and insights; without her, this shop would not be what it is today.
