We had the good fortune of connecting with Maggie Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maggie, why did you pursue a creative career?
Art and design have always been uppermost in my mind since childhood. My mind and my personality are not wired for strict rules … I see where sometimes 1 plus 1 equals 7, making fashion design a perfect choice! My eyes see colors, shapes, and textures and how they interact with each other to make a composition. When I look at a forest, I don’t see trees, I see their odd shapes, the configuration of the branches and how they relate to the tree next to it. I see the variations in colors within the same color. Fabrics, however, were the obvious choice for my medium, as I also love the process of sewing to transform odd shapes into a beautiful garment.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love my work! As a bridal gown designer, I am privileged to work with women during the happiest time of their lives. I get to help them navigate what can sometimes be a stressful time and create the gown of their dreams. I get to help them experience the luxury of having a truly one of a kind gown made just for them that fits just right. I’m proud to say I’m celebrating 10 years in business this month. I left a great, long time corporate job to pursue my dreams when most other people would be thinking retirement. I’m probably considered crazy, but these last 10 years have been the most rewarding and gratifying time ever. As with any business, it’s never easy and one never gets to relax because life can always throw you a curve… can you say COVID? I keep getting up every day to a job I love and keep rolling with the punches, always learning something new and loving my clients.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course, I must credit my mother with giving me the gift of her creativity with fabrics. She sewed beautiful gowns for her four daughters’ proms and weddings. She taught me to listen to my instinct, rather than strictly following a pattern or rules of color. I must also credit the members of the fashion community in Denver for inviting me into their circle and affirming my gift through photo shoots and fashion shows and my beautiful clients who purchase my designs.
