We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Brummer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, why did you pursue a creative career?
Embarking on an artistic or creative career has been a personal journey rooted in self-discovery. From a young age, I was drawn to creativity and artistic expression, finding solace and fulfillment in activities that allowed me to explore my imagination. However, during my formative years, I held the perception that pursuing a creative path might not lead to financial stability or success. Society’s emphasis on traditional career paths often led me to believe that practicality outweighed pursuing my artistic inclinations. As I entered my early 30s, a pivotal shift occurred within me. I reached a point where the internal conflict between my innate creative drive and the fear of financial uncertainty came to a head. It was a moment of introspection, a reckoning with the notion of chasing one’s dreams despite external expectations.

The realization dawned upon me that life is finite, and I had been allowing my aspirations to take a backseat for far too long. This epiphany became a catalyst for change. I recognized that the pursuit of an artistic or creative career was not just a whim, but a fundamental part of who I am. With a newfound resolve, I decided to confront the doubts and hesitations that had held me back. The decision was both liberating and daunting – a leap of faith into the realm of the unknown, but also a conscious choice to honor my authentic self.

Overcoming societal preconceptions and personal doubts, I’ve embraced my artistic inclinations as an integral part of my identity, and I’m dedicated to nurturing them in life, knowing that I’m shaping a story that is uniquely my own.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Art in any form is inherently unique, automatically setting individuals apart from one another. Personally, my proudest moments stem from not only committing my mind to a goal but actualizing it. Rather than relying on chance or passively waiting for opportunities to arise, I’ve embraced a proactive mindset. Continuously seeking avenues to create my own opportunities has enabled me to showcase my abilities to a broader audience, establishing a reputation for initiative and innovation.

Each venture I’ve undertaken, guided by this proactive approach, has not only fostered personal growth but also expanded my professional horizons. Yet, my current position represents an ongoing journey fraught with challenges intertwined with self-doubt. Questions like, “Am I good enough?” or “Should I pursue a more conventional path?” have crossed my mind. These potential obstacles have been surmounted by steadfastly engaging in the work despite their presence. It’s reminiscent of my passion for running – though not the fastest by any means, I persist in the pursuit.

One aspect that sets me apart may be my storytelling style. From my earliest memories, I’ve taken delight in weaving narratives, finding immense joy in filming other’s personal life stories. To provide insight beyond my own perspective, I asked a friend to provide her input (who is extremely prolific in her own right). This is what she said, “What sets you apart from others is your humor and the way you tell a story, and by not taking yourself too seriously. You are self-effacing in the most ridiculous of ways, which is endearing to people and gives you a level of social acumen. What sets you apart is that you continue to do the best that you can despite being a woman in a field laced with men – young men at that!”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If we found ourselves in the midst of winter, our day would start at around 8 am, when we would head to A-Basin (Arapahoe Basin) for a ski day. We would catch the first chair of the day, and revel in the untouched snow. We’d ski a few leisurely runs, allowing ample time for acclimatization, mindful of the altitude disparity for my visitor from lower elevations.

At around 11 a.m., we’d break for brunch and mimosas. Around 1 p.m., we’d hit the slopes once more, until around 3 p.m. Apres ski would follow, which would include appetizers and margaritas. We’d head back home around 6 p.m. to rejuvenate, preparing to do it again the next day.
Should the scenario unfold during the heart of summer, a completely different vo*age would await us. Our compass would direct us toward the Upper Colorado River, where a five-night odyssey of rafting and camping adventures would unfold. This adventure would include, grilling on the side of the river, cliff jumping, hot spring soaking, and sunbathing. Not to mention happy hour during sunset.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The network of incredible, strong-willed women who have been a guiding force in my life. Their unwavering encouragement, support, and camaraderie have been instrumental in shaping my story, and I believe they deserve a special place in the spotlight.
