We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracy Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tracy, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Tenacity. You can feel deflated at times, but our clients know that we never give up advancing their brand, and we’ll keep digging until we find that gold nugget that takes us – and them – over the top.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my own public relations/marketing business because I wanted to do good work for organizations doing great work in the community, and I wanted to be the one to curate and amplify those stories. The stories we get to tell are what sets us apart because we don’t have just one type of client. So on one day we could be writing, the next day we’re at a photo shoot, and the next we’re arranging a news conference.
Was it easy? Yes and no.
I was fortunate enough to get the bulk of my clients by word of mouth. But it could be difficult at times to juggle all of the accounts, so I began to (gasp) turn work down when my plate was full. It was challenging but worth it to live a more balanced life, which is especially important now with children, an elderly parent, just life in general.
But ultimately, having my own business is what led me to dreams that would have not come true working for others. It’s hard work but it gives you freedom if you’re doing work that matters.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d start with Colorado’s majestic mountains! You can’t have friends come to Colorado and not start there. In fact, we hosted a family reunion here in 2022 and that’s the first thing we put on the agenda. If we’re lucky, our trip would coincide with the annual Winter Park Jazz Festival for a ton of fun and fantastic music. The next day, I’d take them to Denver’s Botanic Gardens, Cherry Creek Reservoir and the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library. On Day three, I’d take them on a tour of the most beautiful college campus in Colorado (and my alma mater) the University of Colorado at Boulder. On Day four, I’d treat them to a foodie’s dream tour of my favorite restaurants and bars such as Agave Shore, Welton Street Cafe, Mimosa’s, and unique cocktails at the Marigold, all in Five Points. Day five would take us through the Colorado Black Arts Festival and some retail therapy at the Cherry Creek Mall. We’d round out the week at a Nuggets game, a visit to City Floral for the gardener in all of us, brunch at Le French Denver, sweets from Just My Imagination Twin Pastries, and a little yoga at the Urban Sanctuary.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Circle of Trust. I call them my “3Ts and a J” (they know who they are). They have all been friends, confidantes, advisors, and inspirations to me.
And my tribe – My immediate family is my board of directors. They remind me to trust my gut, to not allow work to define me or govern my life, and to breathe.
