We had the good fortune of connecting with Khayla Farmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Khayla, what do you attribute your success to?
Without a doubt, the most important factor that fuels my success in business ownership is my family. After working dozens of different kinds of jobs, I realized that my inconsistency wasn’t doing my family any favors. For one reason or another, I couldn’t last longer than a year or two at any place of employment. I hated the type of work, I hated the manager, I hated the pay, I hated the hours, you name it, I had an excuse. The solution was simple. Create a space doing what I wanted, when I wanted, and a paycheck that I was in control of. Once that was established, the moral and ease of my family life was a thousand times smoother!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I realized over the years that the most consistent hobby I had was creating! It didn’t matter what it was, I needed to MAKE something. I tried my hand at baking, cooking, crocheting, painting, gardening, photography, etc. Pair that up with a high strong mama who loves making money to fund family activities and a hairstylist is born. I entered into this career after already having kids and a mortgage so there wasn’t much time for learning curves. I launched myself into this industry and sponged every bit of knowledge I could until it was time to fly off on my own and open Wildflower Hair Gallery after a few short years of learning the do’s and dont’s of the trade.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My absolute favorite thing to do when I’m not at work or at some sporting events for the kids is to head outdoors! Living in Northeast Pennsylvania has grown on me over the years. At one point in time I thought I wanted to leave the area but I changed my perspective after traveling all over the country and I’ve found that we’re actually quite lucky to live in such a beautiful area here in PA. If I had to take someone around this area, we would grab some pizza, head to my favorite winery for some slushies and either grab the kayaks or go on a hike and find some waterfalls. If it’s Falls, we’re heading to an orchard or pumpkin patch. Winter? To the slopes for some skiing and hanging out at the lodge! Unfortunately spring is my enemy, although beautiful, allergies are no joke when you’re surrounded by nature.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without my husband’s support and my children’s motivation, I wouldn’t have had the courage to take on business ownership.
