We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Kayl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, how do you think about risk?
No matter who you are or what you do, risk is inevitable. The piece of that puzzle that varies is… how much fun can you make out of it while going through it? The general motto of my life is, “Kill ’em with kindness” and I share a similar philosophy when it comes to risk. Take all the risks you can/need but ALWAYS make kindness, happiness, and fun the three pillars of priority.

Now that all sounds great on paper but we all know it’s not that easy… unless you truly manifest those feelings and believe in yourself. If I hadn’t believed in myself enough to end my first true marketing career because I wasn’t being treated fairly, I would have never wound up at my dream job. I am now the Marketing Manager at a nationally renowned craft brewery, WeldWerks Brewing Co., and I couldn’t be happier! (Though my four months of unemployment sure were scary… especially with my wedding date falling smack dab in the middle of that time!)

The moral of the story here is to never forget how badass you are, to take a deep breath and stand back if you need to, plant those roots firmly, and then seize whatever the hell is it you’re going after.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Lauren Kayl and I am the heart and soul behind the lenses and screens. I’m an adventure-loving, mountain-going, picture-taking kinda gal who has been interested in photography since I could hold onto my dad’s old Minolta film camera. Twenty-some odd years later, countless hours spent tinkering in Lightroom, Photoshop, and Illustrator… with too many filled-up hard drives to count… I still can’t put my camera down or my creative mind to bed. I think it is this intense passion that sets me apart. Of course, like most, I’m working to pay the mortgage, buy the groceries, etc. but I truly LOVE what I do. It’s not always been easy, (in the beginning, I offered more discounts and promos on photography packages than I’d care to admit) but it’s always been fun… there’s just something that hits different about being passionate about what you do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a Northern Colorado native and boy howdy, do I feel incredibly blessed in that regard.

I grew up on a cattle ranch so there was no shortage of long, mountainous horseback rides, throwing flies into a stream hoping to pull out a big fat trout, stopping somewhere along the way for a picnic, and I believe there is absolutely no way someone should go through their life without experiencing that at least once! While we’re at it, we might stop on the way down the Poudre Canyon at the Mishawaka Amphitheater, for a bite and maybe even a live show. Once we’re back in town, we’ll likely swing by Odell Brewing Co. or Jaws Sushi for dinner.

Wintertime? No problem. Copper Mountain, here we come! My husband and I will show you all around the mountain. Tired legs, cold body? No worries, we’ll warm right up after with some Irish Coffes and Pho!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
While there are many people I’d love to sprinkle some love to, there are three that need to be recognized.

First up, my husband, Trevor Kayl. Without a doubt, he is my biggest fan and I truly believe he thinks that I could take over the world if I put my mind to it. Do yourself a favor, and find yourself a Trevor of your own – I don’t know where I’d be without him in my corner.

One of my dearest friends met through past work, Michelle Taylor. Michelle has taught me so much throughout our friendship, both professionally and personally. She’s a badass in the design field and one of the funniest, quirkiest, strong-hearted people you’ll ever meet and I know she’ll always be there for me.

My previous manager, Devin Quinn. The ethics that he instilled in me over the course of a year and a half are rock solid. Your life is always priority number one. Set boundaries to protect your mental and physical health, don’t doubt yourself, and never forget the badass that you are and the badass work that you’re doing.
