Meet Shannon Ferrell | Wedding and Elopement photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Ferrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is definitely the client experience. I want everyone who books with me to feel comfortable enough to ask me anything at all. I want my brides to feel like I am a friend who is attending their wedding and documenting the day for them. It’s also so important to me that every single person who books with me feels like they are my only client no matter how big or small the session is. I have made many lasting friendships because of this approach, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the clients who keep returning and asking me to photograph different chapters in their lives.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. There were many sleepless nights trying to achieve the kind of editing style I had in mind. Learning how to create a brand and workflow that really represents myself and my art was probably the hardest part. You want to stay on trend, but you want to stand out at the same time so “how can I do this” is a common question I would ask myself. Long story short, I stopped overthinking and just created what I felt like creating. Even though reels are what everyone says you need to be posting to grow, I hardly ever post them and if that is hindering my social media growth, I’m okay with it because in the end I’m staying true to what I want my brand to look like and feel like and I don’t feel like dancing and pointing at text on a screen is something that really represents “me.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Utah is one of the most beautiful states and being based in Salt Lake City I get the best of everything. If I had friends or family visiting me and I wanted to show them the best time I would start by taking them to the canyons, big cottonwood canyon is one of my favorites to photograph couples. I could create a list of hundreds of places here but a few at the top of my list would be the Bonneville salt flats, the Great Saltair, Provo canyon, little Sahara sand dunes, and the Utah state capitol building. Also, southern Utah is unlike any other place in the world. We have so many national parks like Arches, Canyonlands, Zion, Capitol Reef, Bryce canyon, and my favorite state park where my husband and I got married which is Dead horse point, it’s just so beautiful.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a small circle of friends here and we call the group “coffee club” we try to get together once a month for coffee and we all bring our notebooks and laptops and brainstorm ways to level up our businesses. I think having a little group of like-minded people around you is such a great thing.
