Meet Alice Anderson | Wedding Painter & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alice Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alice, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
This is a question I’ve struggled with my entire life. I often feel discouraged, like I should give up. However, I always have this little voice inside me. This little voice that tells me – no. If you stop, you’ll never forgive yourself. I often regret the things I haven’t done, but I never regret trying something. I am a firm believer that if you try, and keep trying, you cannot fail. This ideology has gotten me through so much hardship, and inspired me to continue to persevere.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My personal art is a surreal and dreamy mix of abstract and realism. I grew a following based on making art YouTube videos, and educating and inspiring others. For a while, I thrived in the YouTube market, but over the years, it started to feel hollow and unsatisfactory. Then I discovered live wedding painting, and tried it for the first time. Going to someone’s wedding, capturing the magic of one of the most important days of their lives, seeing the reactions of the couples, it’s so fulfilling to me. The lesson I learned from this? Art, creation, it’s not easy. You’ll be successful when you’re passionate about what you’re doing, and when that passion starts to wane, so will your success. It’s important to stay on your toes, and follow that internal voice that’s guiding you. When my passion for creating videos started to fail, I transitioned my path, and went back to making videos for fun. It’s always okay to change the path you’re on, or take a different route.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My first stop is ALWAYS going to be Shuga’s! They have the best apps, hummus, and cocktails downtown! So yummy, and such a cute atmosphere. From there, we definitely have to visit Garden of the Gods, and spend a day exploring and making art. Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City deserve a full day of their own, because I LOVE exploring all the little arcades and hidey-holes there. Of course, if someone was visiting, we’d have to have a little home day, because I have to show off my cats. And a trip to Denver is a must, especially during the summer – the Botanical Gardens are one of my favourite places on earth!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My high school art teacher – she always encouraged and supported me, when I couldn’t make art, she would yell “Make art! Make good art!” and when I felt down about myself compared to others, she’d tell me “apples and oranges baby girl, it’s apples and oranges.” I wouldn’t be where I am today without her support.
