Meet James Fisher | Music Producer & DJ – ALIGN

We had the good fortune of connecting with James Fisher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I was incredibly inspired by going to shows in college. When I was around a very party-forward culture and I found myself at shows where groups were having equally good times just centered around music. I was so blown away by that, that I realized I wanted to be the person providing the atmosphere and music.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The music I make is considered to be indie-electronic music. I make dance music which is often backed by a lot of organic sounds and samples from real life. A lot of my music turns out very summery, and I often really lean into creating things that can feel somewhat melancholy. I love nostalgic / thought-provoking music, so I often like leaning into that vibe.
I started making music in college, and had absolutely no idea what I was doing for a long time. When I started figuring it out at the very end of college, I released a song, and after a bit of time was able to play a local gig in my college town. Shortly after, I moved to Chicago and did A LOT of cold emailing trying to get my name out there and open shows. Eventually, I got one, and one thing led to another to get me to where I am today.
There have been countless challenges, but I’ve maintained working 9-5 the entire time I’ve pursued music. Doing this has been a choice which has enabled me to really pursue my dream, and has allowed me to pursue a separate career at the time. It has challenged my time management and my resilience, but has been absolutely worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m typically the friend visiting Denver although it really has become 2nd home for me in terms of cities.
I ALWYAS make sure to hit Denver Central Market, at least once, but often like 20 times for coffees, beers, food etc.
I always recommend that people go check out Red Rocks, even when there’s no show. I love Red Rocks, and theres a special energy there worth going to experience.
I always find myself at a lot of different bars enjoying the nightlife in Denver as well
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I can list a lot of artists that I’m inspired by… but I’ve received so much support from my awesome mom throughout this entire journey that I’ll dedicate the shoutout to her! I’ve been lucky enough to have a kickass mom in my life and she’s always helped guide my creative side. I’m aware that many people don’t have that in their parents so I feel very lucky to be able to share this side of myself. As well as have permission and encouragement to lean further into these these feelings of expression!
