We had the good fortune of connecting with Margaret Rothe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Margaret, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The success of CounselMore as a B2B brand is rooted in its user-centric design; we support education service providers; AKA college counselors, test-prep companies, the auxiliary services adjacent to schools. This niche market hasn’t had technology built specifically for them before, that’s why we fit their needs so well.
With comprehensive features, and continuous innovation, making it a one-stop solution for managing student education planning. Built for a growing new market it has cultivated a strong community fostering professional development that has cultivated a loyal user base. This blend of innovation, community, and impact underscores CounselMore’s commitment to growing the cottage industry of educational service providers.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My work involves guiding new educational consultants through the essentials of running their programs, often filling in the practical gaps left by their formal training.
Additionally, I find immense satisfaction in collaborating with seasoned companies to tailor technology solutions that meet their unique needs. The discovery process is fascinating.
At CounselMore, I have the privilege of engaging with industry pioneers, which I consider a form of ongoing research. Outside of CounselMore, I personally assist families and students in navigating the complex college planning process, leveraging my keen ability to connect with and support students. This focused work is where I find my greatest strengths and joy.
We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about?
What fills me with pride is witnessing a new college counselor start their journey with CounselMore, knowing that it means more students will receive the guidance they need, especially with the current challenges in guidance office accessibility. I’m excited about the role CounselMore plays in this—offering a platform that not only meets the specific needs of educational service providers but also actively contributes to the broader community by supporting the growth of new consultants.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to Jane Rosser, whose mentorship has been a cornerstone of my professional journey. Jane taught me the power of consensus and the importance of building shared visions. She instilled in me the belief that facing daily challenges is part of the fun, placing principles above personalities, with collective eyes on the prize is the key to leadership.
This ethos is woven into the fabric of CounselMore. It’s about more than just building software; it’s about fortifying each other’s esoteric learning by documenting best practice. It is finding the best path, documenting and sharing the knowledge that lays a road into the future for our entire industry. Jane’s guidance on embracing responsibility with both its weight and privilege has been invaluable. She was right—being a leader includes collective vision and embodying that vision as the example of our mutual goal. First believe in it – then, build it.
