Meet Nancy Murphy | CEO and Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nancy, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Pets are family. And we wouldn’t want it any other way. We are honored to be entrusted with the care of your fur babies, and we care for them in your absence just like we do our own pets!
Free to Roam
We have a free-roam environment, where dogs are kenneled only during feedings to avoid any food-related aggression. While we do have kennels available if your pup needs some alone time or if you prefer they are kenneld at night, all dogs in our care are free to roam throughout the play areas and pick their favorite spot to snooze. We even have real furniture (beds, chairs, etc.) to provide an environment as close to home as possible. Our goal is to make A Dog’s World your pet’s favorite retreat when they can’t be with you.
We work hard to ensure that there is an appropriate balance of play time and structure. We take seriously our responsibility to provide an environment that promotes the happiness, health, wellness, and general welfare of all dogs in our care. By allowing our dogs to roam in a safe, secure, and supervised environment, we provide necessary socialization, education, and exercise making them better canine citizens for us all.
Life doesn’t work 9 to 5 and neither do we! We are here with our canine guests 24 hours a day. Our pet parents can drop off and pick up any day, any time of the week.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My husband and I got our first dog together in 2002. By 2003 we had three dogs and we weren’t comfortable leaving them in any boarding situation we found. We decided to create a boarding and daycare environment we would want as a pet parent. We took care of up to thirty dogs in our home for 15 years as part of our family. A Dog’s World is the expansion of our business in our home with the same family environment carried over to the facility. We purchased the land for a Dog’s World in 2016. It took a huge amount of effort to get through the county building process and 4 1/2 years later, we were ready to open right in the middle of a once in a lifetime pandemic! We learned, through a ton of hard work and perseverance, that anything is possible!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are so lucky to be surrounded by so many amazing restaurants, sight seeing and attractions! Since we work more than we don’t, our list of favorites is small. Here’s some of our favorites: The Melting Pot, Nono’s Cafe, downtown Castle Rock, Wine Country in Palisade, Lions Gulch off leash hiking trail, dog friendly Aspen Grove, Seasons 52, Arts on Fire pottery studio.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We have the most supportive customers ever! Without them and our family, we would never have successfully built and opened A Dog’s World. Our investors include family and customers that believed in our mission and journey and they put their money where their mouths were! It is has not been an easy go of it since we had to open during the Covid-19 pandemic. Then we have gone through the upper respiratory doggy pandemic in 2023/2024. Our customers rallied and supported us with $25,000 in donations so we could cover our payroll in January 2024. We are looking forward to operating under normal life circumstances one of these days!
